Viejo Isaias
 Mendoza (Argentina)

The Estate
The owner and winemaker is Rodrigo Manuel Romero. 2004 was the first vintage for this winery. Total current production: 4,200 cases. The label represents both grandparents of the winemaker. The rose on the label signifies the first new rose of each season--every year his grandfather Isaias would watch for the first rose to give to his wife, Juana.

The Vineyard
The grapes are sourced in Perdriel, Lujan de Cuyo and Upper river Mendoza region. Rocky, sandy soils located 950 meters above sea level, irrigated by flooding river waters coming from the Andes mountain range, make the perfect match for vine growing. They use purchased grapes and farm 11 hectares (27.17 acres) of their own vineyards of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, and will plant another 5 acres of Malbec in the summer of 2008. In 2009 they will plant a Syrah vineyard.

2006 Viejo Isaias, Malbec, Reserve, Mendoza 12/750ml
"The 2006 Malbec Reserva, from a great Mendoza vintage, spent 8 months in American oak. It is purple-colored with aromas of toast, blueberry, plum, and black cherry. On the palate it has good weight, ripe, spicy flavors, and enough structure to carry the wine for 6-8 years."

2007 Viejo Isaias, Elegido 3/750ml
50% Malbec, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
Elegido means the chosen one.

"(a 50/50 blend of malbec and cabernet sauvignon) Bright ruby-red. Ripe strawberry, black raspberry, licorice and smoky oak aromas lifted by violet. Smooth and rich, with a spicy oak complement to the sweet flavors of redcurrant, mocha and tobacco. Finishes with serious dusty tannins and a medicinal hint of licorice, plus a suggestion of nutty America n oak that limited its appeal for this taster."

2009 Viejo Isaias, Torrontes, Late Harvest, Dulce 6/500ml
The wine shows an intense golden yellow color with greenish hues. Clear and bright. Aromas of citrus peel, stone fruits and intense notes of white flowers such as freesia and jasmine. Excellent structure, well integrated and balanced acidity, candied orange peel, silky and unctuous.
Pairs well with seafood or as an appetizer.

2008 Viejo Isaias, Torrontes, Late Harvest, Dulce 6/500ml
"Pale yellow. Orange blossom, candied lemon peel, white flowers and spices on the nose, with high tones of clove and spearmint emerging with aeration. Not at all a viscous style of sweet torrontes; in fact, this rather light and very fresh wine comes across as just off-dry, with a firm acid spine lifting the flavors of citrus peel and spices. Boasts sneaky intensity and captivating inner-mouth floral character. A very sexy wine with a smooth, floral finish. I've had dry torrontes that comes across as heavier than this wine! Would make a lovely aperitif. "
