The Vineyards
In the early 90's, the family established the Jip Jip
Rocks vineyard, in South Australia's Limestone Coast wine
region. They have concentrated on growing premium varieties of
Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The vineyard
consistently produces excellent fruit quality from low
yielding vines. Only the best parcels of fruit are carefully
selected throughout the vineyard and used in the Jip Jip
Rocks label. Great attention is given to detail with the integration of
fruit flavors and fine oak barrels and helps to produce classic
handcrafted wine styles.
Their sole objective is to produce the best wines
possible from their unique vineyard site. Planted on own
rootstock and located in the Padthaway valley which is
comprised of rich Terra Rosa soils their estate vineyard
benefits from excellent sun exposure producing grapes of
optimum flavor, color and tannin development. The warm summer
days are moderated each evening by coastal winds that cool the
vines and result in a longer ripening period. This extended
period allows for the grape tannins and seed to fully ripen
prior to being harvested, thus creating wines that are rich
and supple on the palate.
Their pursuit of great wine can also be seen in the meticulous
management of our vineyard. They strive for low crop yields
and small grape bunches of intense flavor, and whilst they
employ the latest technology in the vineyard to help us
achieve vine balance and reduced vigor, they harvest when the
fruit reaches full flavor development.

2006 Jip Jip Rocks, Shiraz 12/750ml
Winemaking
is very traditional and labor intensive. Oak maturation takes
place using 35-40% new barrels with the oak type has
traditionally been American. In good cellars, Jip Jip Rocks
Shiraz can age for up to 5 years. This Shiraz was put together
using select barrels from the family estate that best
demonstrate the intensity of the fruit balanced by integrated
oak.
Consistently mild weather during the growing season and
leading up to harvest encouraged optimal ripening. Weather
conditions during harvest were perfect, making for a smooth
vintage. Grape berries were quite small and since yields were
down, flavor was concentrated and quality enhanced.
Lifted spice and ripe mulberry/blackberry aromas are
complimented with chocolate, cedar and cinnamon on the nose.
Well integrated oak tannin provides flavors of clove and
supple texture which supports the rich plum, blackberry and
mocha. The overall structure is supple and generous with
fine-grained tannin on the finish enveloped with ripe fruit
overtones.
"Bright and jazzy, with lively raspberry and cherry fruit, lifted
with juicy acidity that lets the fruit and cream notes mingle nicely on the extended finish.
Drink now through 2013."

Deep purple in color. A rich powerful nose of cassis with
overtones of spice and cedar. Lush, ripe palate dominated by
black fruits, cherry and dark chocolate. Full bodied with
savory, integrated fruit tannins and persistent finish.
"Bright
purple. Energetic cherry and blueberry aromas display an
exotic hint of licorice. Taut, youthfully bright red and dark
berries on the palate, with a nervy mineral lift to the
finish. I preferred this to the creamy but jammier '06 shiraz.
Finishes with lipsmacking berry skin flavors and very good
length."

2007 Jip Jip Rocks, Chardonnay 12/750ml
White
grapes are gently crushed before fermentation.
Traditionally Jip Jip Rocks Chardonnay is a blend of 2/3 Chardonnay grapes fermented and matured in stainless steel,
and 1/3 that starts fermentation in stainless steel
and then goes into French and American oak to continue
fermentation for about 4 weeks, and then matured for up to 5
months in new and older French and American oak.
The
2007 Vintage in Australia has been one of the most challenging
in memory. It started out with some spring frosts which caused
minimal damage and loss to the vineyard. Due to minimal
rainfall the harvest of early and late ripening varieties were
compressed, leading to a compact harvest. The positive side
was that with tiny berry formation, the fruit showed great
intensity and promising quality to come.
Pale Straw. A pure and complex nose, with fresh citrus
characters as well as stonefruit, melon, cashews. The palate
is clean and fresh with subtle oak characters. Like the nose,
the palate is quite fruit derived and has great poise. This
wine will age beautifully over the next 4-5 years.
"Light
yellow. Leesy apple, pear and peach on the nose, with a tangy
hint of lemon zest. A medium-bodied chardonnay with lively
citrus flavors and a tangy, pleasingly bitter lemon pith note
on the back. More vibrant and precise than one might expect
from Australian chardonnay at this price."

lot of presence across the palate but maintains its dry,
almost austere character; a tightly wound wine that softens
with time."
