The Estate
We have a unique opportunity to provide the retail trade and ultimately the consumer with some real value in Southeastern Australian wines with this fine range of varietal wines, coming from a blend of fruit from Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale and Southeastern Australia. The fruit driven style, and freshness of these wines will be hard to beat. Winemaker Rob Dundon was chief wine maker for Hardy’s for many years in McLaren at Tintara. Tintara was itself acquired by Thomas Hardy in 1876 from its founder Dr. A.C. Kelly. Tintara was one of the first commercial wineries in McLaren Vale. Rob Dundon has a wealth of experience crafting wines and it shows in the Black Wing wines.

The Vineyards
One of the most damaging scourges in their vineyard can be the small birds which peck at the fruit, leaving them to rot. They control these birds by deterring, rather than destroying them. Scraps of offal littered around the vineyard during the ripening season attract a family of hawks, whose menacing presence deters the small birds. The shadowy spectre of these hawks floating over the vines lends its name to these wines. They are made to reflect the varietal fruit characteristics from each grape variety. They are youthful, modern styles, full-flavored yet soft and lingering on the palate.

2005 Black Wing, Chardonnay 12/750ml
"An amazing, value-priced Chardonnay, the 2005 Black Wing is a fruit-forward effort displaying notes of lemon honey and orange rind in a medium-bodied, beautifully fresh, lively style. Aged in French oak for three months, it is more Maconnais in style than the typical tooty-fruity New World Chardonnay."
