The Brewery
Laughing Dog has just moved into
a new brewpub/brewery that can provide 5,000 barrels of beer (a far cry from
the 1000 barrels that were produced in their first year) and are already
making plans for further expansion up to 15,000 barrels. The brewpub maintains
the dog theme throughout, even using dog bowls for serving snack mix to the
customers. Fred & Michelle also allow customers to bring their dogs.
Fred
likes nice hoppy beers, from his Pale Ale to the 127 IBU Alpha Dog Imperial
IPA, but is versatile in his beer brewing: consider the Dogfather Imperial
Stout and his latest creation, Anubis, an Imperial Coffee Stout. The Dogfather
Stout also has a ‘Bourbon Barrel’ counterpart, aged in Heaven Hills Bourbon
Barrels. Fred is also using the Heaven Hills Bourbon Barrels on experimental
beers, some of which will be released.
Sneaky Pete, an Imperial IPA brewed
with a tremendous amount of Simcoe Hops and a splash of honey, was made
specifically for Kysela by Fred. After its first release in the spring of
2011, Sneaky Pete quickly garnered a 99 on Ratebeer.com and a B+ on
BeerAdvocate.com. |

Laughing Dog, Sneaky Pete Imperial IPA 24/12oz
Sneaky Pete is a blend of five hop types: Simcoe,
Glacier, Centennial, Vanguard and Hallertauer, with Simcoe playing the
dominate role at 30%. In addition, three separate malts were used: Honey
Malt, Rye Malt, and Munich Malt. The brew has a copious aroma of white
grapefruit, citrus overtones, a complex rich middle and long flavors in the
finish; a real beauty. Finished with wild clover honey. 89 IBU’s, 10%
ABV.

anniversary beer, St Benny’s Hoppy monk was also our GABF pro-am entry for
2011. Home brewer Steve Milnes combined his love of Belgian style beers with
Laughing dog's passion for IPA, so we
have a Belgian styled IPA. Brewed with Simcoe, Galaxy and Citra hops, it has a
big citrus flavor followed by a Belgian finish. Not your typical IPA, but one
of which we are very proud.

Barley-wine was brewed in 2008 and aged until 2011. At 13% ABV,
it has taken on sherry and raisin
flavors and is rich and
full-flavored.Copper red in color
and 75 IBU it is a great barley wine to
sip. The name for the beer comes from the idea
that if you drink more than a couple
of these, it may take 14 dogs to carry you home.
