Château Suau
Bordeaux

The Estate
Hidden behind a row of 100-year-old oaks, Château Suau was once the hunting lodge of the Duc d'Epernon. It was restored in the 16th century and in 1687, during the reign of Louis XVI, the château was owned by the Suau family of Capian. Monique Bonnet purchased the Château in 1986. She lends her impeccable style and elegance to this Bordeaux estate that represents a great value in
today’s French wine market.

The Vineyard
The vineyards are currently planted with 65 hectares (160.55 acres) of red grapes: 10% Cabernet Franc, 55% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon; and 7 hectares (17.3 acres) of white grapes: 50% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon, and 20% Muscadelle. The vineyard is farmed with the culture raisonnée method. The soil has a gravel and limestone base. The red wines are aged in a combination of French oak barrels. No oak is used for the dry white wine produced.
The vineyards are currently in conversion to an organic farming.

L'Artolie

 2009 HARVEST

After a rather cool and rainy spring followed by a beautiful summer, we enjoyed a wonderful month of September as well as October !

The sun and wind concentrated the berries and lots of thermal amplitude between day and night that enhanced harmonious ripening of the grapes.

We harvested white Sauvignon earlier than planned on September 10th. The Muscadelle & Semillon were picked on September 16th ....without a single drop of  rain : Super !

We decided to postpone the harvest of the red grapes in order to take full  advantage of the sunny days and cool nights.

We started picking Merlot on Sept 21st. The first plot was" l'Artolie", planted in 2000 with a high density of 7000feet/hectare and a beautiful exposure !

Harvest of Cabernet Franc : October 12th.

Harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon : from October 13th to 19th.

This is the longest and latest harvest we have ever had : 2009 will be an outstanding vintage, comparable to 1989 & 1990, which is not bad at all !
