Domaine Geantet-Pansiot
Bourgogne

The Estate
The Domaine was founded by Edmond Geantet in 1955. Vincent Geantet, who has a passion for Harley Davidsons as well as wine, joined him in 1977 and definitely took over the estate in 1989. He represents the 4th generation of the family producing wine and his daughter currently works with him. The domaine has grown after 1991 when Vincent bought 4 hectares in Gevrey- Chambertin, in 1994, when he bought 0.6 hectares in Chambolle Musigny and Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru, and recently in 1999, after they acquires a parcel of Gevrey- Chambertin during the sale of the domaine Vachet-Rousseau.

"Plump, succulent wines mostly from Gevrey; while quite showy, also exhibit fine detail; worth seeking out." - Anthony Dias Blue's pocket guide to wine 2006

The Vineyard
This is a 16 hectare-domaine (39.5 acres), spread over the communes of
Gevrey- Chambertin, Brochon, Marsannay and Chambolle- Musigny. 80% of the vineyards use Guyot Simple as a "technique de taille" (pruning technique). The other 20% are in Cordon de Royat, which allows to control the vigor of the young vines.
Depending on the weather condition, the maturity and the quantity of the grapes, Vincent is also using "vendange verte" (green harvest), which consists in cutting the bunch of grapes, one month before harvest, so that the concentration of the sugar in the grapes is higher. The harvest is done by hand and automatically selected for a second time in the cellars.  The grapes are destemmed and age
d in 1 third new oak, the rest in 1-2 year old barrels. Each terroir is respected and vinified to show its character. The meager production is 100% estate bottled.

The vineyard is divided like this :
Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru le Poissenot
Gevrey-Chambertin
Gevrey-Chambertin "En Champs"
Gevrey-Chambertin "Jeunes Rois"
Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Croisettes"
Chambolle- Musigny, 1er Cru
Chambolle- Musigny
Marsannay "Les champs Perdrix"

Domaine Vincent Geantet-Pansiot, Gevrey-Chambertin, "Jeunes Rois" 12/750ml
"Jeunes Rois" is a lieu-dit located in the commune of Brochon. 45 year old vines. Low yields.
Manual harvest - sorting table - destemming - cold stabilization for 8 days
Aged in 30% new oak barrel - weekly batonnage before ML - no fining - no filtration before the bottling.
Good aging potential

"
Good full red. Perfumed aromas of black cherry and smoked meat. Supple and perfumed in the mouth, with ripe acids keeping the wine's sweetness under wraps. (But this still comes off as sweeter than the basic village bottling, which I rated 87.) Offers good spicy intensity and verve, and coats the palate on the firmly tannic, persistent finish, which shows a late note of licorice."

This is a typical Gevrey Chambertin, rich and full-bodied. Sweetness and heaviness. Good tannins.

"Bright ruby-red. Pungent, perfumed nose melds black and red raspberry, smoked meat, flint and minerals; I would describe this as a Chambolle style of Gevrey. Then fat, pliant and sweet, with a light touch and nice definition to the flavors of red and black fruits, smoke and minerals. Finishes with substantial broad tannins and very good length. Serious wine and structured to age."

The mineral and floral aromas. Black fruits and spice. Finesse and elegance throughout the wine.

"Deep red-ruby. Captivating aromas of wild black raspberry, minerals and game, along with a saline note. Suave and fine-grained on entry, then at once saline and sweet in the middle, with lovely mounting mineral perfume toward the back. Offers a more pliant texture and silkier tannins than the En Champs, suggesting that this very long wine will be drinkable a bit earlier.

The age of the vines is 104 years.
Blackcurrant fruits, earthy aromas. Rich and concentrated with good aging potential.

"Full ruby-red. Very pure, vibrant aromas of musky minerals, crushed stone and flowers. Densely packed but a bit imploded today, with superb intensity and precision to its red berry and mineral flavors. With its sound balancing acids, this is all spine at the moment, but the back end is dry, sophisticated and very long, leaving behind a sappy, tactile impression of extract. I'd wait six or seven years on this one." - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 07), 91 pts

"Sweet and intense and charming on the front palate but with very good intensity and balance on the palate. Lovely wine. A certain sweetness." - Jancis Robinson

Red fruit flavors and an elegant finish. C0mplexity.

"Good red-ruby color. Reticent but pure blackberry aroma. Fat, broad and sweet; in a distinctly ripe style, with black fruit flavors dominating. Conveys the low-acid, slightly heavy impression I find in a number of village Chambolles in 2005. But certainly broad and lush on the back, with slightly dusty tannins. This seems shocked by the recent bottling.

"Bright ruby-red. More obviously ripe on the nose than the Baudes, offering blackberry, chocolate, mocha, smoke and a whiff of pepper. Very sweet, supple and creamy, with the ripe chocolatey character following through in the mouth. Fuller than the Baudes but not as vibrant or detailed. Finishes broad and chocolatey, without quite the lift to merit an outstanding rating.

"Geantet separated this fruit from his premier cru bottling for the first time; these vines are from 45 to 60 years of age) Bright ruby-red. Wild, complex aromas of black fruits, violet and smoked meat, with attractive peppery lift. Lush, smooth and concentrated, with noteworthy nuance to its flavors of stony minerality and brown spices. A step up in intensity and richness from the village wines and quite juicy on the back. I like this style.

A very complex wine offering a bouquet of black fruits and spices. Powerful yet charming and silky in the mouth, it is excellent young but can be kept for 8-10 years.

"Bright ruby-red. Deep aromas of blackberry and licorice; at once riper and more brooding than the last couple of wines. Then juicy, spicy and vibrant but quite closed in the middle palate, with superb energy to the dark berry and violet flavors. Finishes impressively broad, ripe and dry, with substantial tongue-dusting tannins and excellent length. This one also needs a solid six to eight years of cellaring.
