2006 Brunello di Montalcino, Vitanza 12/750ml
100% Sangiovese.
Aged for 36 months in 30% French and 70% Slavonia barrels.
Aged in the bottle for 6 months.
This wine is the King of all Italian reds.
It is full-flavored, woodsy, and intense with a long
finish. Brunello
will correspondingly age for 15-20 years.
"This well extracted wine is loaded with ripe fruit,
cassis, tobacco, leather and chocolate-covered cherry. The
wine is still young and astringent, so let those tannins
soften over the next 5–10 years. M.L." -

"Deeply colored and extracted, showing plum, black
cherry, blackberry and mineral notes. A big wine, with oak
spice and jammy fruit, ending with firm, sinewy tannins.
International in style, yet long. Best from 2013 through 2024.

"Deep
red. Fresh, floral aromas of violet, rose, red cherry and
redcurrant. Bright and lively on the palate as well, with sour
red cherry, raspberry and almond flavors lingering nicely on
the smooth, uncomplicated finish. This is much less herbal and
tarry than previous vintages made at this estate and is more
successful than any previous wine made here. New consulting
winemaker Franco Bernabei is obviously already weaving his
magic here."

"Love
the dark berry and licorice aromas to this red. Full body,
very polished tannins and long and racy on the finish. It’s a
little reserved now, but will deliver lots of classy fruit and
enjoyment in the end. Best after 2012."

"Tenuta Vitanza is a tiny world of its own, existing
within the tiny world of Montalcino. The winery is located at
the furthest extreme of the winemaking zone and its owner,
Guido Andretta is a wonderfully bi-cultural Italian-American.
His wines are always delicious and 2004 is particularly so:
It's fresh and plump with enormous depth of fruit, spice and
licorice aromas." -

"This
deeply-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino from Vitanza
displays an array of super-ripe
jammy berry, licorice, smoke and tasted oak nuances.
Ample and caressing on the palate, it offers
outstanding length and fine overall balance, with an
attractive note of sweetness on the finish.
A few years of cellaring should help integrate some of
the oak tannins that are present today.
Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016."
