The
Vineyard
The
vineyard measures
37 acres, planted of 45 year-old vines on average
(some of the vine plants are almost 100 years old).
The soil is rocky, clayey and calcareous hillside,
with schist depressions. The vineyard is totally hand
harvested. The grape varieties are
Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre & Cinsault.
Stephane Barnaud
believes that the winemaking starts in the vineyards, trying
to reach the best ripeness, then comes the vinification
process to respectfully extract the true expression of the
fruit.
The wine making is traditional with moderate
de-stemming and use of stainless steel tank with
temperature control where the
grapes varieties and parcels are vinified separately.
The wines produced at the Domaine have different vatting
periods: a short period of time for the Cotes du Rhone
Fruiandise to keep the fruit and the freshness, while a much
longer time is used for the 100% Syrah Cuvee or the Cotes du
Rhone Villages Rousset les Vignes, made from older vines, for
each grape to achieve its potential and complexity.

2005 Domaine de la Bouvaude, Côtes du
Rhône Rouge, Fruiandise 12/750ml
80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Carignan.
20 year old vines on average.
Nice
deep, brilliant velvet color. Round, ample and soft nose of
ripe black fruits and spices. This is a very elegant and well
balanced wine. The fresh, clean and juicy palate offers
beautiful flavors of red and black fruits (predominantly
blackberries and blackcurrants), with light touches of pepper.
A very good length. A pure pleasure and an excellent value.
