The Estate

The Vineyards
AOC Cornas is one of the smallest AOC in France (only 116.4 hectares = 288 acres). He now farms 4.17 hectares under "culture raisonnee" (sustainable) method in the lieux dits "Les Cotes", "Bayonnet", "Chaillot" and the parcel called "Saveaux" for the AOC Cornas.

Very low yields for all the wines. only 33 hectoliters per hectares for the Cornas tradition.

"Tightly wound but very vibrant, with tangy white pepper, sweet tapenade and bracing iron notes woven around a core of sappy kirsch and plum fruit. Shows great cut on the finish. Should develop nicely in the cellar. Best from 2013 to 2020. 400 cases made"

2010 Domaine Johann Michel, Cornas "Cuvée Jana", 6/750ml
Manual harvest, selection of the grapes from the "Chaillot" parcel, full clusters, fermentation in tanks for 3 weeks, daily remontage and pigeage. Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and aging on the lees for 12-18 months in barrels (new old barrels)
The average age of the vines is 10 years.
Yield: 25 hl/ha

"The massive, backward 2010 Cornas Cuvee Jana possesses chewy extract along with lots of black fruit, earth, truffle and asphalt characteristics, good acidity and freshness, and a boatload of tannin. It will require a decade of cellaring and should age for 25+ years."
