The
Estate
Domaine Joliette is a family owned winery run by Andre
Mercier and his son Philippe who represents the fourth
generation of his family to produce wine. The property
is located on the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains,
along the Mediterranean Coast, near Perpignan, and is surrounded
by pine trees, olive trees and garrigue (wild herbs).
The
Vineyard
The
40 hectare vineyard is farmed under organic method.
Both Andre and Philippe focus on the work on the
vineyard in respect of the environment. The
vines
are more than 40 years of age on average, which means
very low yields,
and the steep hilled vineyards can only be harvested
by hand. The vines are planted on red soils
that are typical from the Mediterranean area,
calcareous soils and black schist soils for the
parcels located on the Agly Valley.
