Bonaccorsi Wine Company
Central Coast (California)

The Estate
"In 1999, Michael and Jenne Lee Bonaccorsi formed the Bonaccorsi Wine Company and set out to produce wine of their own with the love of Burgundy and the Rhone. Since their first vintage in 1999, they continued to strive for improvements not only in winemaking techniques but improve the quality of the best vineyards in the central coast. "Our goal at the beginning was to move from Santa Barbara to the Russian River Valley, but Michael realized that we could produce wine just as good, if not better in the central coast, especially in the new Santa Rita Hills appellation…all this untapped potential."
Bonaccorsi Wine Company produces limited quantities of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah rendered in the style and spirit of a small Burgundy domaine. Grape sources are selected carefully from cool areas of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties in California's South Central Coast. Current grape sources include Sanford & Benedict Melville, and Fiddlestix Vineyards in the newly created Santa Rita Hills appellation, and Bien Nacido and Le Bon Climat Vineyards in Santa Maria Valley. At the winery, grapes and wine are handled carefully and minimally in an effort to capture and enhance the combination of grape variety and site. Bonaccorsi's objective is to produce wines that combine concentration with delicacy."

2008 Bonaccorsi, Chardonnay, Nielson 12/750ml
"The 2008 Chardonnay Nielson Vineyard, from a Wente clone, is also quite pretty. The Nielson tends towards a more overt expression of tropical aromas and flavors. A long, polished finish rounds things out nicely in this intense, harmonious Chardonnay. The Nielson Vineyard was aged in French oak barrels, 25% new. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.

"
We stopped making Chardonnay three years ago to concentrate on our Pinots, but great quality fruit came our way and I could not resist. This is Byron Wente clone, fermented in neutral oak 10 months. Look for our Wente clone from Melville coming next year."

Peter Palmer adds: Stunning Santa Barbara Chardonnay, wonderful aromas and flavors of bruleed pear, toasted pineapple with vanilla, nutmeg. Great balance, fresh acidity and finish.

2008 Bonaccorsi, Pinot Noir, "Fiddlestix" 12/750ml
"The 2008 Pinot Noir Fiddlestix is another of the juicier, more expressive Pinots in this line up. There is a generosity and depth to the Fiddlestix that is a bit elusive in some of the other 2008 Pinots. Dark cherries, plums, cola and spices wrap around the juicy finish. 2008 Bonaccorsi, Pinot Noir, "Nielson" 12/750ml
"The 2008 Pinot Noir Nielson Vineyard is another relatively forward Pinot. It shows attractive up-front juiciness in its sweet dried red cherries, tobacco, herbs and licorice. Some of the persistence fades a bit on the mid-palate and finish. This remains a tasty, well-balanced wine but it needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013"

"This is actually a St. Rita Hills blend, but since we had two blends this vintage, one had to be called Santa Ynez Valley. I struggled with not vineyard designating Sanford and Benedict this vintage. I felt it brought the best when combined with the Melville Mt. Eden and some Fiddlestix Pommard. Fermented on native yeast for 18 months on 60% new French Oak."- the winery

Peter Palmer adds: Soft, pretty nose of strawberry, blood orange and lilies. Savory, tree bark and fresh finish, approachable now.

A blend of clones 677 and 115 from the steep sloping hillside. Fermented on native yeast, aged for 18 months in 50% new French Oak.

Peter Palmer adds: Exotic, open nose of cola, coffee and ripe black and blueberries. Broad medium finish with hard candy.

"Vivid red color. Strikingly pungent nose displays deep red berry and cherry preserve aromas, along with a dusting of flowers. A sweet, pliant midweight that offers sweet raspberry and cherry flavors, good mineral snap and fine-grained tannins. Finishes with good clarity and a strong echo of minerals. Very nicely balanced and focused pinot."
