Londer Vineyards
Anderson Valley (Califirnia)

The Estate
The estate is owned by Larry and Shirlee Londer. They are both originally from Denver and have an ophthalmology background. They lived in New Mexico for 27 years before they started searching for a property in 1997. They quickly fell in love with the Anderson Valley that they think had the perfect climate and found their property in 1999. They produced their first vintage in 2001.

The Vineyard
The vineyard is located approximately 120 miles north of San Francisco, in the southwestern corner of California's Mendocino County. The blanket of fog that ordinarily curls up from the coast most summer nights and then burns off during the warm dry sunny days allow the vineyards to produce grapes that slowly develop and ripen. They are one of the coolest of the state's so-called cool-climate wine regions. This is ideal for growing varietals such as Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, and Chardonnay.
They have planted about 15 acres of Pinot Noir--using five different clones, and an acre of Gewurztraminer. Most of the vineyard is on south facing hills with a combination of well-drained sandy loam covering an underlying clay loam. The Navarro River forms the southern boundary and brings the fog right up to their door. Along with grapes they grow strawberries, olives, plums, figs, tomatoes, a variety of leafy vegetables, lavender and a whole lot of raspberries.

The Wine

2006 Londer, Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley 12/750ml
#C0EE894001PNM

UPC code:
100% Pinot Noir sourced from 4 vineyards: Londer, Valley Foothills, Ferrington, Donnelly Creek
Aged in French oak barrels.

Medium ruby in the glass with bright rose glints. This Pinot showcases aromas of cranberry-raspberry cocktail, cinnamon sticks, fresh raspberries and strawberries. The medium body is well balanced with juicy acidity and very soft, fine-grained tannins. Notes of pomegranate and cranberry dominate the palate, with hints of baking spices, dried mushrooms and dark chocolate layered beneath. The finish lingers with notes of espresso and cherry.

"This bright and very well-balanced wine is at once both rich and vital with lots of concentrated, ripe-cherry fruit and a fine fleshy feel. It is accessible now and its careful combination of ripeness and well-defined varietal fruit stays the course through to a very long and involving finish."

"Fresh and floral, restrained and elegant, even understated, with dark plum, black cherry, herb and savory berry flavors that linger. Drink now through 2011."
