"I stumbled into the wine business during my senior year of high school, while I was working part time at a retailer in Matawan, New Jersey. The owners had other jobs and busy schedules, and one day they said “can you attend some wine tastings from wholesalers and report back to us on what you recommend we should bring into the store? You get to taste wine and eat food for free and get paid for it.” I answered, “sure I’ll give it a try.” I didn’t know what I was getting into, but it was a life changing moment.

Soon after I began attending tastings I discovered the Cabernets of Charles Krug, Inglenook, Robert Mondavi and BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve. Eventually I tasted a Pommard, then Volnay and Chassagne Montrachet and discovered I particularly treasured French wine. I supplemented the tastings by attending New York’s International Wine Center to expand my knowledge. I went to college studying Biology and Geology at TCNJ and UMass Amherst. I regularly draw on my interest in natural science and consider it an asset to my career in wine.

I took my first wholesale job working for Monsieur Touton Selections in NY & NJ. That led to traveling with one of our suppliers, Bobby Kacher, to visit France for the first time. Now, I can count thirty plus voyages to France and many visits to Northern Spain as well.

Eventually I was “noticed” by New Castle Imports, a small importer of French wines located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina who also had their wines sold through Touton. I was offered a position managing NY, NJ, PA, CT and IL. While at NCI, I organized and attended tastings with Robert Parker, James Molesworth, Bruce Sanderson and many other journalists and authors. I stayed at NCI until they were bought about twelve years later.

Upon leaving New Castle, I went to Lauber Imports, a wholesaler in NY/NJ as a French Brand Manager for several years. Most recently I worked at a startup division of Palm Bay Imports selling French wines named Esprit Du Vin. I anchored their NJ division for the last ten years.

Outside of work, I’m an avid fisherman – both salt and freshwater. I also enjoy nature photography, with an emphasis on birds and the landscapes I encounter while out hiking. At home I get to enjoy time with my twenty-three-year-old son Grant and my wife of thirty-two years, Jayne. Our family resides in a small rural town in Central Jersey, roughly one square mile in size.

Now I’m excited to bring my thirty-five years of experience in wine to Kysela Pere et Fils and work with the excellent portfolio that Fran has assembled."
