The steep Paulinshofberg is a classic and highly recognized vineyard and with only 9 hectares it´s one of the most individual and smallest sites of the Mosel region. Its weathered slate soil grants the wines with tangy and mineral notes. In periods of drought the deep roots of the vines that fight their way through the rocky slate ground can draw nutrients as well as water out of the moist ground.
The wine offers a bouquet that ranges from ripe yellow fruits to exotic aromas of litchi and pineapple. The rich fruit density is balanced by a crisp and mineral acidity as it touches the palate and leads to an electric tasting experience.
"Spicy notes of struck flint and slate lend earthen complexity to ripe, richly concentrated pineapple and yellow peach flavors. Light-bodied but laser-edged in focus, it's a racy, semisweet Riesling that awakens the palate and leaves a long, steely finish. Enjoyable already but should evolve beautifully for decades. - ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA"

"Crisp green melon rind and crystalline mineral notes lend a cooling tone to this light-footed Spätlese. It's medium-sweet in style with juicy lemon and lime flavors offset by lip-smacking, honeyed white peach and grapefruit flavors. Approachable already but concentrated and steely enough to gain complexity through 2030. - ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA"

"Slightly more expensive, the 2016 Bastgen Kestener Paulinshofberg Riesling Spätlese is another beautiful wine from this estate. Clean, crisp notes of white peach, lime pith, crushed mint, and beautiful, building minerality all give way to a medium-bodied Spätlese that has rocking purity of fruit, a seamless texture, and bright, integrated acidity that shines on the finish."

"Exuberantly blossomy, this perfumed riesling offers loads of pristine white peach and pineapple flavors off set by layers of cool minerals. It's a juicy yet revitalizing wine, with a long crystalline finish."

"The deep yellow color predicts the ripeness of the wine, a big, rich riesling with golden peach and apricot flavors. A smoky mustard-seed note makes the fruit more complex, the way spices make a fruit chutney compelling, while the acidity leads the wine to a clean close."

"Like the Kabinett, this bursts with grapey, generous fruit flavors, tangy acidity keeping the wine fresh. The gingery spice and mint edge give it shape, pointing it towards Szechuan food, where the sweetness will tamp the heat while the aromatics play with the floral peppercorns."

"Whiffs of sage and brush lend an herbaceous quality to this vivacious wine. Apple cider and honey tones are bright and sweet, accentuated by puckery lemon-lime acidity."
