2015 Boxwood Red Reserve - 89 PTS - WA

wa89"The 2015 Reserve is a blend of 46% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, plus Petit Verdot filling out the blend. It was aged for 12 months in 35% new French oak and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. This is a new label for Boxwood's 10th Anniversary—it won't be produced every year. This happily adds has a layer of depth to the Trellis, showing fine fruit and fullness in the mouth. It is still supple, but it has the freshness and balance to hold reasonably well. It will acquire more complexity in a few years, so even if you think it is drinking well now, it might be better in 2020. In the meanwhile, it's very tasty. I think its sibling this issue, the Topiary, is a bit better in structure and concentration, although only slightly, but this might be more expressive at the moment."

2015 Boxwood Red Reserve - 93 PTS - JS

james suckling hq logo plain"The black-cherry, blueberry and redcurrant aromas of this cabernet-franc-based red blend are extremely bright and vivid, and the combination of fresh dry tannins, savory richness and delicate spicy notes on the long finish makes this very impressive. Delicious now, but should develop positively for at least a decade."
