2016 Burgo Viejo Rioja Crianza - 90 PTS - VINOUS

vinous logo"Deep ruby. Smoky-accented cherry, blackcurrant and coconut aromas are sharpened by a suggestion of cracked pepper that adds spicy lift. Push and broad in the mouth, offering sweet dark fruit liqueur and oak spice flavors that slowly tighten up on the back half. Finishes creamy and appealingly sweet, with rounded tannins coming in late to add framework and gentle grip. - Josh Raynolds"

tim atkin logo 250"Well priced and very appealing, this is part of a line up of really enjoyable, harmoniously oaked wines from Burgo Viejo, made from Tempranillo and 5% Graciano. Pepper spicy and refined, with clean, modern, textured blackberry fruit and a fresh, tangy finish. 2019-24."

2017 Burgo Viejo Rioja Crianza - 90 PTS - DECANTER

decanter logo 250"Founded in 1987 by six wine-growing families, today the Burgo Viejo co-op makes wines from 16 growers with 200ha of vineyards in Rioja Oriental. This is an absolute bargain for classic Rioja lovers, offering plenty of mellow red and black fruit on the palate, with well defined cassis and blueberry notes. Wrapped in a veneer of oak, with grainy tannins and leathery hints, leading to a rich, spicy finish."

2018 Burgo Viejo Rioja Crianza - 90 PTS - WA

wa90"I find balance, seriousness and some restraint in the 2018 Crianza. It has moderate alcohol and contained ripeness, integrated oak and a polished palate with fruit and spice flavors that make it quite recognizable as Rioja. It has some tannins that would welcome food and/or a little bit more time in bottle. It's 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano matured in American oak barrels for one year. 240,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2020. - Luis Gutiérrez"
