2016 Domaine Johann Michel Cornas - 95 PTS - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The base 2016 Cornas from Michel is brilliant and a match for just about anything out there. Completely destemmed and brought up in 2- to 4-year-old barrels, its deep purple color is followed by a monster nose of black fruits, olives, cured meats, and wild herbs. Deep, full-bodied, and incredibly pure on the palate, it shows the classic style of the vintage yet also packs plenty of depth and richness. It’s a thrilling Cornas to drink over the coming 15-20 years."

2017 Domaine Johann Michel Cornas - 93+ PTS - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The 2017 Cornas comes from more sandy soils and was brought up in 3- to 5-year-old demi-muids. It's an elegant, complex Cornas with lots of ripe red and black fruits and plenty of loamy earth, truffle, and spice incense aromas. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, balanced, incredibly classy, elegant Cornas that has terrific tannins, loads of upfront charm, and a great finish."

2017 Domaine Johann Michel Cornas - 94 PTS - WE

Black-fruit flavors are glossy and penetrating but backed by a zippy spine of acidity and tense, fine-grained tannins. The wine drinks well already but should improve through 2030 and hold further still. - Anna LEE C. IIJIMA"

2018 Domaine Johann Michel Cornas - 94 PTS - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Moving to the three Cornas releases, the 2018 Cornas is brilliant and certainly in the same ballpark as the 2016 and 2017. Lots of red and blue fruits, smoked earth, graphite, iron, violets, and gamey notes define this full-bodied Cornas. With ample tannins, fabulous balance, and a big finish, it's going to need 4-5 years of bottle age at a minimum yet should drink fabulously well over the following 15 years."

2019 Domaine Johann Michel Cornas - 94 PTS - WS

wine spectator 94 pts"This bursts forth with a torrent of dark plum, boysenberry and blackberry preserve flavors. Vivid, racy and energetic throughout, with extra sweet bay leaf, violet and black olive elements chiming through repeatedly, while a mouthwatering chalky minerality courses underneath it all. Best from 2024 through 2038. —J.M.

"Sourced from two different plots, this inky, ripe wine highlights the variability of terroir within Cornas and the plushness of Syrah vinified with 100% destemmed grapes. The palate pulsates with rich, almost syrupy, flavors of black-cherry preserves spiked with granite, iron and olive tapenade. Levitated by black-currant acidity and framed with firm, furry tannins, this luscious, violet-scented sip should hit peak from 2024 through2040. - Anna LEE C. IIJIMA"
