Azienda Agricola Giarola
Italy - Veneto

Giarola is located in Palazzolo di Sona, in the province of Verona, near Lake Garda. The terrain is morainic, originating in the Quaternary glacial period when ice retired itself, leaving behind fine rocks and rubble which transformed into fine clay. This terrain, combined with the temperate climate around Lake Garda, creating ideal conditions for Bardolino and Custoza wine.

The Giarola family have cultivated vines since 1923, and vinification began in 1968 under Umberto Giarola. Umberto is still involved today, supervising the work of his sons Michele and Valeriano and working in the vineyards & winemaking process himself. Valeriano is involved in the winemaking, while Michele handles commercial development.

Improvements have been made over the last few years, including vineyard renewal, implementation of a double curtain breeding system (6,000 plants/ha) and a controlled ground irrigation system.

The estate comprises 12 hectares (30 acres) of vineyard. Farming and vinification is done with respect to the environment. Umberto and Valeriano perform continual soil and leaf analyses, checking for all nutritional elements necessary for the balanced development of the plant.
