UCO VALLEY (Valle de Uco)
This is the most important area in terms of style and quality of wines. Right at the foot of the Andes (Pre-Cordillera), the Uco Valley has its own and very particular microclimate, with a big temperature range, cooler weather and complexity in the soils that result in very intense wines with their own personality and refinement.
Our land in Gualtallary was planted with Cabernet Sauvignon 20 years ago. Its soil is composed mainly of sand and rocks. The irrigation system uses melt water from the Andes. The result are small grapes and low yields per hectare that lead to wines of great concentration and mineral notes.
In San Carlos there is an old vineyard - 15 hectares of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon with 50 year old plants - that yields high quality grapes. The soils here have a rocky middle stripe, which allows better drainage and results in a high density of flavors.
The vineyard in Vistaflores is simply a dream. With its 20 years old vines, it is planted exclusively with Malbec on soils with drainage that give a great mineral character to wine.
Agrelo is a prominent area in the sub-region of Lujan de Cuyo, the oldest area in Argentinean viticulture. This 10-year-old vineyard is located at 3,100 feet above sea level with alluvial and sandy soils and a large volume of rocks. This is one of the most prestigious terroirs in Argentina.
Located in Maipú, this 15 hectares vineyard of 100% Malbec on the edge of the Mendoza River has soils formed by the river´s sediments, good drainage and a nice temperature range between days and nights. The vines are more than 80 years old, low yield and great quality grapes.
Age of the vines:
Biondolillo: + 100 years
Gabrielli and INTA: + 50 years
Novifruit and Pavot Dor: + 15 years
A 16: 10 years
Didier Debono was born in France on 1972. His love for making wine was instilled by his mother and grandparents. He spent every summer working in the family’s vineyards in the Cognac region.
When it came to choose a career, the natural decision was oenology, and Didier got his degree in Bordeaux. There in France he worked in various properties, such as the well-known “Vignobles Despagne”, and also served as a technical manager in Saint Emilion and Saint Estephe properties owned by the d’Aulan family.
Didier came to Argentina in 2002, where he remains today. He began as the main oenologist for AltaVista, where he still works as a wine consultant. He has also worked in Chile as a winemaker consultant for Santa Rita, and also makes wine for Kysela's Chilean producer, Siegel Family Wines.
In 2012 he joined the Casir dos Santos team as main oenologist, bringing with him his unique style. Didier’s great trajectory and experience in the both Old World and New World wineries are particularly evident in his special care and dedication to the winery.
