Long Shadows Vintners
United States - Washington

Long Shadows Vintners is a collection of elite Washington State wineries comprised of internationally acclaimed winemakers from major wine regions around the world. Founded by Washington wine pioneer Allen Shoup in 2003, Long Shadows consistently produces signature wines with unique complexity and style. Each Long Shadow winemaker is partner in an individual winery dedicated to producing an exclusive Columbia Valley wine that represents a “best of type” that also shows that winemaker’s style and Columbia Valley’s viticultural excellence. Long Shadows Vintners have dedicated hundreds of hours to sampling wines originating from outstanding vineyards that represent their desired style and wine type in order to take full advantage of Columbia Valley’s microclimates and terroirs.

French-born Gilles Nicault is Long Shadows’ director of winemaker and viticulture. He has been creating Columbia Valley wines since 1994 and earned a degree in winemaking from the University of Avignon.

Randy Dunn is an acclaimed Napa Valley vintner with a reputation for producing world class Cabernet Sauvignons. Randy has over forty years of winemaking experience and produces Feather, the only wine he crafts outside of California.

Michel Rolland is a Pomerol vintner, as well as consultant to some of the world’s most famous wineries.

Agustin Huneeus Sr. is a long-time friend and colleague of Allen Shoup, and when Allen asked Agustin to join him at Long Shadows, Agustin also asked Philippe Melka to join him in the endeavor. Philippe is one of Napa Valley’s top consulting winemakers and he crafts many acclaimed wines in addition to his own label.

Armin Diel is proprietor of Schlossgut Diel, a renowned winery in Nahe Valley, Germany.

Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari are among Tuscany’s oldest, most prestigious Tuscan winemaking families, dating back to the late 1700s. Ambrogio and son Giovanni formally owned Ruffino wine company and in the 1980s Ambrogio was one of Italy’s first winemakers to create a Super Tuscan. Today the father-son team craft high-end Tuscan wines under Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute.

Before John Duval established John Duval Wines in 2002 and joined Long Shadows in 2003, he made wines for Australia’s Penfolds for 28 years, with 16 of those years presiding over Penfolds Grange. John makes Long Shadows Sequel which is his first U.S. wine. Allen Shoup chose the name Sequel to honor John’s life-long work with Syrah.

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The talented Gilles Nicault continues to manage this estate and all its different cuvées brilliantly. The key factor to understand with these wines is that each is made with consulting advice from a different winemaker. Hence, the style of each is unique, yet the quality is top notch."
