Viejo Isaias
Argentina - Mendoza

The signature wines project of Viejo Isaías originated in 1998, when oenologist Rodrigo Manuel Romero, inspired by his grandfather’s expertise, decided to plant vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo’s Perdriel area.

Grandfather Isaias Hernandez was a wise and virtuous farmer, and a life-long winemaker. He was passionate about wine growing and winemaking, but also about the cultivation of roses. He would give his wife the first rose of each season as a proof of their love, which blossomed year by year.

Isaias shared his knowledge and passion with his grandson, Rodrigo. In 1998, Rodrigo began studying oenology and planting vineyards. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Oenology and Fruit Horticulture in 2003. Combining his formal education, the knowledge from his grandfather, and his experience as a farm and vineyard manager at Finca Romero Soner during college, Rodrigo founded Viejo Isaias winery. The name and rose logo honor his grandfather & keep his legacy alive.

Rodrigo produced his first vintage in 2004. Today the winery produces 8,000 cases annually. They use 100% pump/drip irrigation, as higher parcels don't receive flood irrigation. In 2019 they completed construction on a new winemaking building, which contains only barrels (no tanks).
