Alain Jaume Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail
Alain Jaume ( Grand Veneur )
France - Rhone Valley - Gigondas AOC

Located in and around the famous area called “Dentelles de Montmirail”, the landscape typicity is made by a rocky bar (between 100 and 600 meters high). Soils are made of clay and sand with limestone. The “Dentelles” appeared thanks to the pressure between the Pyrenees and Alps montains. This is a land of predilection to produce both powerful and fresh wines.
Nights are cooler and the grapes ripeness usually comes in late september.

Deep red garnet color. Aromas typical for Grenache with ripe black fruit, blackberry. A powerful Gigondas, racy but harmonious and well balanced. The finish is long on spices touches (pepper) and minerals (crushed rocks, graphite). Best enjoyed after 1-8 years. Best to decant if served young.

2021 Alain Jaume Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail - 92 PTS - DECANTER

decanter logo 250"Bright black cherry with a squeeze of raspberry juice, pepping up the fruit aromas. Fine, quite diminutive style, but well balanced and drinkable. Lovely bright acidity. Tannins just a little knotted, but otherwise this is elegant, charming and drinkable - a success for the vintage. - Matt WALLS"

vinous logo"Opaque magenta. Expressive, smoke-accented red and dark berry aromas show very good clarity and pick up black pepper and licorice notes with air. Supple and broad in the mouth, this wine offers plush cherry and black raspberry flavors with a touch of succulent herbs. Finishes smooth and long, with well-judged tannins and lingering cherry and spice notes. - Josh Raynolds"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Lots of blackberry and raspberry fruits as well as floral, pepper, and spicy notes emerge from the 2020 Gigondas Terrasse De Montmirail, a blend of 65% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvèdre. Still resting all in tank (concrete and stainless steel), this medium-bodied, supple, round, solid Gigondas will provide plenty of pleasure over the coming 10-12 years if stored properly."

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Based on 65% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2019 Gigondas Terrasse De Montmirail is deeper purple hue and offers more smoky black and blue fruits, roasted garrigue, licorice, and ground pepper. Made in a more focused, masculine style, with notable minerality, it’s medium-bodied, has a solid mid-palate, and a great finish. It’s going to benefit from a year of three of bottle age but is unquestionably going to be an outstanding wine."

Medium to full-bodied, balanced, with sweet tannins, drink it over the coming decade."

wine enthusiast 94 pts"Initial notes of smoke and char fade with aeration revealing layers of decadent black plum and cherry flavors here. This is an intoxicatingly fruity, luscious wine that's balanced pertly by fresh acidity and a crisp mineral undertone. Nuanced by spice and garrigue, it's drinking beautifully already but should improve well through 2030."

wa93"The 2016 Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail shows why everyone is excited about the 2016s in the Southern Rhône. A full-bodied, rich and velvety wine, it comes close to being chocolaty and fudge-like without closing that border, instead delivering dark plum and cherry fruit, dusty, earthy notes and savory spice. It should drink well for a decade or more. - Joe Czerwinski"

Its deep ruby color is followed by a pretty, elegant, seamless wine that has great notes of red fruits, white flowers, spices, and a limestone-like minerality. Silky and polished, it shines for its elegance and purity."

Coming from higher elevation sites and mostly limestone soils, its vibrant purple color is followed by beautiful spice, black raspberry, kirsch and dried flower-like aromas and flavors. Plush and appealingly sweet, offering fleshy red and blue fruit flavors and a touch of candied flowers. wa90"While Gigondas struggled in 2014, the 2013s were surprisingly successful. The 2013 Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail is nicely concentrated and structured, with lots of classic graphite, smoked earth, mineral and black fruit characteristics on both the nose and palate. Made from 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre, it has excellent purity of fruit, good acidity and fine tannin, all of which should keep it drinking nicely through 2024. - Jeb Dunnuck"

Lots of black tea and tobacco details fuel the finish. Modest cellaring should let this round into form. Best from 2017 through 2024. 1,200 cases made."
