2018 Croix Senaillet Saint-Véran Les Buis - 90 PTS - WE

wine enthusiast 90 pts"Golden apple and greengage notes on the nose of this wine accent ripeness and generous fruit as much as freshness. A gentle texture heightens a sense of serenity that is amplified by the balance of freshness, fruit and chalky backdrop. It's an elegant and understated wine with a vividly fresh finish. - Anne KREBIEHL MW"

vinous logo"(from a nearly 50-year-old 1.6-hectare parcel on white calcaire; done entirely in cuve): Bright medium yellow. Nose dominated by strong stony minerality. Considerably more saline than the foregoing wines--in fact, almost iodiney--with a ginger element contributing to the impression of vigor. This captivating, fresh midweight finishes dusty and impressively persistent, with an element of brown spices that would complement many Asian dishes. Conveys a strong impression of terroir. (The Martins also made a 2016 Saint-Véran sans soufre Ajouté, but despite showing good energy and salinity in the mouth, as well as a hint of tannins from the oak, it betrayed some oxidative crabapple and cider notes that limited its appeal.) - Stephen Tanzer"

wa91"The 2015 St Veran les Buis has a very attractive bouquet with yellow flowers, a touch of lavender, chalk and citrus lemon, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a brisk, saline entry. It's a lively and tensile St Veran that has a lovely marine element on the finish that instantly makes me want to order a plate of oysters. This is excellent. - Neal Martin"

vinous logo"(done entirely in cuve): Bright medium yellow. Pungent, musky, reduced aromas of lemon, crushed stone and caraway seed. Tactile, concentrated and quite dry, with its penetrating acidity supported by strong buffering extract. An energetic, structured Saint-Véran with noteworthy rising length. This is not as easy to drink as the Rochats but is a more serious main-course style of white wine that should be paired with more complex dishes.- Stephen Tanzer"
