wa300"The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois (presented as a prospective blend, from tank and barrel) features scents of peppered raspberries. It's full-bodied but lively, with the creamy, lush feel that typifies this bottling, and a lingering finish. Despite all of the work required early in the season, it's turned out beautifully. - Joe Czerwinski"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The saturated purple-hued 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De La Reine Des Bois is another brilliant wine from this estate. Made from 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah and Vaccarèse (as well as a few other varieties) brought up in 80% stainless steel and 20% old barrels, it offers an extraordinary bouquet of blackcurrants, chocolaty herbs, ground pepper, and graphite. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it stays pure and flawlessly balanced on the palate, with silky tannins. I love everything about this wine, which reminds me of a slightly plusher example of the 2010. It has some upfront charm today and will continue drinking brilliantly for 15 years or more."

On the palate, the wine is plush, round and polished with a spicy edge to the lifted, cherries in the finish. The wine was produced from a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah and 5% Vaccarese."

Stays juicy and energetic throughout, with light bramble and graphite nuances checking in on the very long and powerfully built finish. Best from 2020 through 2040.—James Molesworth"

vinous logo"Deep vivid ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet displays ripe red and blue fruit preserve, incense, garrigue and cola aromas complicated by a vibrant mineral quality that gains strength as the wine opens up. Sweet, seamless and broad in the mouth, offering impressively concentrated Chambord, boysenberry, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that show superb clarity and lift. The blue fruit and floral notes power a strikingly long, spicy finish that's shaped by rounded, even tannins. This wine's marriage of heft to finesse is really impressive. - Josh Raynolds"

international wine report logo 2"The 2016 'Cuvée de la Reine des Bois' is a fabulous showing in this vintage. Composed of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah and a dash of Vaccarese and Counoise from 60 year-0ld vines. The fruit was de-stemmed prior to a long maceration and 30-day fermentation with temperature control. The final result is a simply fantastic wine which being with exotic aromas of dark berries, plums, cassis, moroccan spices, fresh cut florals hints of fresh coffee bean. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous medium body with wonderful freshness and bright acidity, as well as remarkable concentration and overall structured. It continues to display striking elegance and purity all they way up to the ultra-long finish. While this already shows flashes of brilliance it will ultimately need some extended bottle age before it shows its best stuff. - J. D'Angelo"

Rich and lavishly textured, it's also freshly composed and graceful on its feet. Firm but fine-grained tannins and a pleasantly smoky tone extend the finish. It should peak from 2020 through 2030. - Anna Lee C. Iijima"

wa300"I tasted several components of what will likely become the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois, all of which were remarkable. A Syrah from vat was stunning, offering flamboyant blueberries and spice along with silky tannins, while a Grenache component from barrel was incredibly rich and layered. I suspect my projected score is conservative. - Joe Czerwinski"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The inky colored 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Reine des Bois is a match for the otherworldly 2001 and is a magical wine that couldn’t be any better. Based on 75% Grenache and the balance Mourvèdre, Syrah, Vaccarèse, and Counoise, raised in tank and neutral barrels, its inky black color is followed by an awesome perfume of blackberries, smoked earth/charcoal, licorice, graphite, and garrigue. Deep, full-bodied, with a huge mid-palate, a seamless texture, and serious tannins, it has the purity as well as depth that makes this vintage so compelling. This modern-day legend needs 3-4 years of cellaring and is capable of lasting for 15-20 years.

This estate has unquestionably landed on its feet after the passing of Christophe Delorme in 2015, and you’ll have to go back to 2001 to find wines at the same level as these 2016s."

Delicate notes of violet, lavender and garrigue lend a perfumed, airy lift. It's a rich but elegant wine with a firm, tannic finish that should meld from 2020 and improve through 2030. - Anna Lee C. While it's not the greatest vintage of this wine, it's still terrific, marrying plummy, black cherry fruit with a dusting of baking spices and Provençal herbs, finishing long and plush. - Joe Czerwinski"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Reine des Bois from Domaine de La Mordorée is solid in the vintage. A blend of 75% Grenache, 14% Mourvèdre and the rest Syrah, Vaccarèse and Counoise, aged in 25% new barrels, it offers the classic darker styled fruits of this cuvée, with lots of blackberry, currants, toasted spice, graphite, and licorice all emerging from the glass. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a supple, elegant style, it's already drinking beautifully, yet should evolve gracefully. This is one of the more elegant, mid-weight examples of this cuvée produced yet it will still keep for 10-12 years."

Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors that gain spiciness and energy with aeration. wa94"One of the wines of the vintage is easily the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Le Reine des Bois. Mostly Grenache (there’s a fair chunk of Mourvedre and Syrah) that’s raised in a combination of stainless steel and barrels, it offers tons of graphite and crushed rock to go with background blackberry, leather and pepper. Ripe, unctuous and fabulously concentrated, this beautiful Chateauneuf can be drunk today with incredible pleasure, or cellared for a decade. - Jeb Dunnuck"

international wine report logo"The 2013 Cuvée de la Reine des Bois instantly opens with aromas of ripe black raspberries and dark plums, which are woven together with smoke, floral, pepper and a meaty character. This continues to impress on the palate with its rich velvety texture which is cut through by a lovely layer of underlying acidity providing a sense of freshness as it heads into the long finish. This can be approached early, but this Cuvée will also continue to develop with some additional bottle age. (Best 2016-2025) - J.D."

The time in barrel reads more in texture than flavor, the tannins melted into a ganache-like richness. Modern and showy, this is a wine for an opulent dinner."
