2018 Domaine de la Mordoree Chateauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois - 93-95 pts - WA

wa300"The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois (presented as a prospective blend, from tank and barrel) features scents of peppered raspberries. It's full-bodied but lively, with the creamy, lush feel that typifies this bottling, and a lingering finish. Despite all of the work required early in the season, it's turned out beautifully. - Joe Czerwinski"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The saturated purple-hued 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De La Reine Des Bois is another brilliant wine from this estate. Made from 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah and Vaccarèse (as well as a few other varieties) brought up in 80% stainless steel and 20% old barrels, it offers an extraordinary bouquet of blackcurrants, chocolaty herbs, ground pepper, and graphite. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it stays pure and flawlessly balanced on the palate, with silky tannins. I love everything about this wine, which reminds me of a slightly plusher example of the 2010. It has some upfront charm today and will continue drinking brilliantly for 15 years or more."

international wine report logo 2"The 2016 'Cuvée de la Reine des Bois' is a fabulous showing in this vintage. Composed of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah and a dash of Vaccarese and Counoise from 60 year-0ld vines. The fruit was de-stemmed prior to a long maceration and 30-day fermentation with temperature control. The final result is a simply fantastic wine which being with exotic aromas of dark berries, plums, cassis, moroccan spices, fresh cut florals hints of fresh coffee bean. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous medium body with wonderful freshness and bright acidity, as well as remarkable concentration and overall structured. It continues to display striking elegance and purity all they way up to the ultra-long finish. While this already shows flashes of brilliance it will ultimately need some extended bottle age before it shows its best stuff. - J. D'Angelo"

wine spectator 96 pts"A strapping, richly layered wine, teeming with blackberry, black currant and boysenberry paste flavors wrapped in a lively black licorice note. Stays juicy and energetic throughout, with light bramble and graphite nuances checking in on the very long and powerfully built finish. Best from 2020 through 2040.—James Molesworth"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The inky colored 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Reine des Bois is a match for the otherworldly 2001 and is a magical wine that couldn’t be any better. Based on 75% Grenache and the balance Mourvèdre, Syrah, Vaccarèse, and Counoise, raised in tank and neutral barrels, its inky black color is followed by an awesome perfume of blackberries, smoked earth/charcoal, licorice, graphite, and garrigue. Deep, full-bodied, with a huge mid-palate, a seamless texture, and serious tannins, it has the purity as well as depth that makes this vintage so compelling. This modern-day legend needs 3-4 years of cellaring and is capable of lasting for 15-20 years.

This estate has unquestionably landed on its feet after the passing of Christophe Delorme in 2015, and you’ll have to go back to 2001 to find wines at the same level as these 2016s."

vinous logo"Deep vivid ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet displays ripe red and blue fruit preserve, incense, garrigue and cola aromas complicated by a vibrant mineral quality that gains strength as the wine opens up. Sweet, seamless and broad in the mouth, offering impressively concentrated Chambord, boysenberry, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that show superb clarity and lift. The blue fruit and floral notes power a strikingly long, spicy finish that's shaped by rounded, even tannins. This wine's marriage of heft to finesse is really impressive. - Josh Raynolds"
