Mordoree Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Reine Bois

2018 Domaine de la Mordoree Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois - 95 PTS - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The flagship is the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Reine Des Bois and it’s 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties. Aged 20% in old barrels (this was raised in new barrels in the past) and the rest in stainless steel, it’s more backward and closed compared to the Voyageuse release and has ample blackcurrants, smoked earth, graphite, and peppery garrigue aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and textured on the palate, it has solid underlying structure yet still plays in the balanced, charming, elegant style of the vintage. It’s beautifully done and certainly up with the top wines. It should drink nicely for 10-15 years."

wa300"The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois (presented as a prospective blend, from tank and barrel) features scents of peppered raspberries. It's full-bodied but lively, with the creamy, lush feel that typifies this bottling, and a lingering finish. Despite all of the work required early in the season, it's turned out beautifully. - Joe Czerwinski"

wine enthusiast 95 pts"In this wine, whispers of sweet spice, char and dried thyme accent plump blackberry and mulberry flavors. Rich and lavishly textured, it's also freshly composed and graceful on its feet. Firm but fine-grained tannins and a pleasantly smoky tone extend the finish. It should peak from 2020 through 2030. - Anna Lee C. Iijima"

2017 Domaine de la Mordoree Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois - 97 pts - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The saturated purple-hued 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De La Reine Des Bois is another brilliant wine from this estate. Made from 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah and Vaccarèse (as well as a few other varieties) brought up in 80% stainless steel and 20% old barrels, it offers an extraordinary bouquet of blackcurrants, chocolaty herbs, ground pepper, and graphite. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it stays pure and flawlessly balanced on the palate, with silky tannins. I love everything about this wine, which reminds me of a slightly plusher example of the 2010. It has some upfront charm today and will continue drinking brilliantly for 15 years or more."

2019 Domaine de la Mordoree Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois - 96-99 pts - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The only 2019 presented, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Reine Des Bois checks in 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Vaccarèse that was brought up 20% in old barrels and 80% in tank. This inky hued 2019 boasts a beautiful nose of ripe dark fruits, smoked earth, licorice, and garrigue. With wonderful purity (which is a hallmark of the vintage), full-bodied richness, and a decadent, opulent texture, this is thrilling stuff all the way. It’s going to flirt with perfection and evolve for two decades or more."

international wine report logo 2"The 2016 'Cuvée de la Reine des Bois' is a fabulous showing in this vintage. Composed of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah and a dash of Vaccarese and Counoise from 60 year-0ld vines. The fruit was de-stemmed prior to a long maceration and 30-day fermentation with temperature control. The final result is a simply fantastic wine which being with exotic aromas of dark berries, plums, cassis, moroccan spices, fresh cut florals hints of fresh coffee bean. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous medium body with wonderful freshness and bright acidity, as well as remarkable concentration and overall structured. It continues to display striking elegance and purity all they way up to the ultra-long finish. While this already shows flashes of brilliance it will ultimately need some extended bottle age before it shows its best stuff. - J. D'Angelo"
