Mordoree Condrieu La Reine des Bois
Domaine de la Mordoree
France - Rhone Valley - Condrieu AOC

Domaine de la Mordoree owns the vineyards in the Condrieu appellation. The appellation is named after the commune of Condrieu, meaning a corner (coin) of land where two streams meet (rieu, akin to the Spanish rio).

The vineyard was abandonned back in the 1960 as the work couldn't be done by machine. Christophe Delorme found some old plantings of Viognier in the middle of the growing vegetation that took over the piece of property. The planting was completly redone in 2004. The soil is extremely poor, which is great for low yield, intense and concentrated wines.

condrieu

The Condrieu AOC produces wine from a single grape varietal - Viognier, giving rise, not far from the city of Vienne, to a wine like not other - a white wine of high quality and great delicacy. Very fragrant, with a great richness of aromas, the wine is extraordinarily rich and mellow, with great smoothness.

Color: dense gold with green hues
Aromas: white and yellow fruits (mango, passion, white peach) and flower (violet)
Flavors: very round, long and complex with a lot of freshness

wa"Somehow I missed getting a note on the 2016, but the 2017 Condrieu Christophe Delorme is no slouch. The Delormes own less than a hectare in Condrieu, with the day-to-day management being done in conjunction with the Paret family. Honeyed and toasty, with generous waves of lychee, apricot and spice, this medium to full-bodied effort finishes fresh, lively and long. - Joe Czerwinski"

wa92"This Southern Rhone estate continues to make a beautiful Condrieu, and the 2013 Condrieu La Reine des Bois offers classic brioche, crème brûlée, honeysuckle and both white peach and apricot-like fruit on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, with plenty of texture, it stays lively, fresh and brilliantly pure. Drink it over the coming couple of years. - Jeb Dunnuck"

Silky and seamless in texture, offering vibrant, concentrated tangerine and white peach flavors plus suggestions of violet and fennel. A zesty jolt of white pepper adds lift and bite to a long, penetrating finish, with the floral and mineral notes emphatically repeating."

wa91"While more known for their first rate Chateauneuf-du-Pape and other Southern Rhones, Domaine de la Mordoree has fashioned a superb Condrieu for the last 4-5 years. The 2012 Condrieu La Reine des Bois continues this streak, and it offers beautiful aromas and flavors of ripe apple tart, apricot, flower, lavender and tinges of honey to go with a medium-bodied, rich and nicely textured profile on the palate. Clean, classy and relatively soft and supple, it should be enjoyed over the coming couple of years. - Jeb Dunnuck"
