2013 Accordini Igino Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Le Bessole

Producer: Azienda Agricola Accordini
Country/Region: Italy - Veneto - Amarone della Valpolicella DOC

Amarone is called the king of the Italian wines and it is considered as one of the best wines in the world. It is a noble and complex wine.
Terroir is everything. The Amarone comes from Valpolicella, a valley located East of Verona, and produced from 4 grape varieties: Corvina (Corvina Veronese and Corvinone), Rondinella and Rossignola.
There are only 5,000 hectares that can boast the label Amarone DOCG. It’s about stony terrains rich of salt minerals such as the Cru “Le Bessole”, located in Colline di Morona, a hilly area between San Pietro in Cariano and Negrar.
The specification (the law that regulates the Amarone production) is very strict: it states that the production of grapes must not exceed 12 tons per hectare.

Amarone is a noble wine with a unique and different personality from year to year.
A great character and personality, the wine boasts an intense garnet color, black cherry and raspberry aromas, spicy notes and liquorice. The mouth is full and persistent, soft and smooth with a good structure. A precious and elegant Amarone, drinkable in every situation, glass after glass.

Wine Making Notes:

The grapes are generally harvested in the first two weeks of October. They are laid on racks in single layers to allow a better air circulation. The grapes start to dry out on the fruit and on average, after 120 days, they loose 45% of their weight. The grapes are vinified in the end of February with a long maceration on the skins until the wine reaches an alcohol content of at least 15%. The wine is then refined in kegs before being transferred into barrels. The wine is usually bottled 3-5 years later.
