For our taste, no one grows finer Syrah in the state than Dick Boushey. We named this wine after the Provencal Troubadour Arnaut Daniel, who invented the Sestina poem form, thus creating a connection between our two flagship efforts.
The Arnaut Syrah Boushey Vineyard has been a resounding success from the start. It was honored as the Red Wine of the Year in Seattle Magazine in our first vintage, 2010 and the 2012 vintage recently received 96 points from The Wine Advocate’s Jeb Dunnuck. We see this wine as a perfect matching of a great vineyard site and grower, with our non-interventionist winemaking style. The 2013 Arnaut promises to be a long-aging and rewarding vintage for this wine.
The nose of this compelling wine leads with black cherry, black raspberry, smoked meats, bacon fat, and notes of violets and crushed rock. The palate is full bodied but taut and focused, a rich panoply of mixed black fruits, savory meat flavors, thyme, lavender, and a taut, minerally finish with ample structure for the future. This wine that will be enjoyable young, but also age 8-12 years.
