THE DOURO - The Alto Douro Wine Region was the first appellation in the world, established in 1756, world famous for Port Wine. In our region, the vines grow on steep slopes and terraces that follow the contour of the hills, supported by large walls of schist. All this makes the outstanding landscape of the Douro wine recognized as a World Heritage site.
Grapes are grown on Schist soils in the Upper Douro.
