Typical Devonian slate Riesling with fruity elegance and great durability.
Big and rich wine with ripe peach and pear on the nose, honeyed, citrus and mineral aromas. Clean and pure, distinctive character. Very long finish.
All vineyards are located in the middle Mosel town of Zelting. Weingut Gessinger joined the Bernkastel Ring in 1899 and for years their wines only appeared at their September auction. Gessinger is quite small, less than 2,000 cases and all his whites are 100% Riesling planted on Devon Slate (best soil type of the area).

"Sun-kissed yellow cherry and mango notes are juxtaposed by struck flint, salt and slate in this spry yet powerfully fruity Riesling. The midpalate is sweet and spicy yet intensely mineral, reverberating through a long, stony finish. Drinks well already but likely to improve from 2021."

"The 2015 Gessinger Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Alte Reben Caldo Infernale is a more complex, rounded, layered Auslese that takes air to show at its best. Beautiful notes of dried hay, crushed rocks, and subtle petrol are nicely balanced by plenty of honeyed peach and orchard fruits on the nose. With plenty of sweetness, a clean, layered texture, good concentration, and a great finish, it’s well worth seeking out."

"This is as gold in flavor as its rich hue predicts, with lots of tart, tannic apple-skin flavors and Indian spice to balance the honeyed sweetness. It does feel surprisingly mature for a 2015; drink it this winter for a holiday meal, with a fruit-stuffed crown roast of pork. "

"Savory notes of saffron and white-button mushroom mingle amidst sunny tangerine and quince in this nuanced Auslese. It's creamy and mouth-filling on the palate but brightened by brisk citrus acidity. The finish is long with lingering notes of pollen and beeswax. - Anna Lee C Iijima"
