Winery Philosophy: Creating clean and fresh wines with a good expression of terroir that remain affordable and easy drinking.
Maurice Martin, Etablished in 1974, is the father of Richard and Stéphane Martin, from Domaine de la Croix Senaillet. The label is an exact replica of the label used in 1974 by Maurice Martin when he began selling wine in bottle with his own label instead of selling everything to the negoce (Wine merchants).
It was the beginning of a quality driven goal, instead of quantity driven as it was the case before when the wine merchants would buy anything and the producer wouldn't mind as his name wouldn't be at stake.
50% of the wine is aged in oak and 50% is aged on the lees in tank.
Wine Making Notes
The grapes for this wine is coming from 2 famous part of the Maconnais' region: Vergisson and Solutré, famous for their Rocks. Hence, the minerality is coming from these rocky soils. The wine went through malolactic fermentation. It has been gently filtered before bottling.
Excellent with white meats and fish.
2016 Maurice Martin Pouilly Fuissé - 89+ PTS - VINOUS
"(made from vineyards in Vergisson and Solutré): Bright gold-tinged yellow. Broader and riper on the nose than the 2016 Mâcon-Villages and Saint-Véran bottlings, with an element of toasty oak complementing aromas of yellow peach, mirabelle, acacia flower and menthol. Silky, plush and broad but not heavy, with stone fruit and spice flavors still a bit youthfully aggressive and in need of another year in bottle to settle down. There's a sweetness here that's not shown by the other '16s from this producer, but it's nicely leavened by strong salty minerality. Finishes dry and persistent, with salty and spicy notes. I would not be surprised if this wine merited 90 points by next summer. - Stephen Tanzer" - Antonio Galloni's Vinous (November 2017), 89+ pts
2015 Maurice Martin Pouilly Fuissé - 88 PTS - VINOUS
"Bright, pale yellow. Ripe yellow peach with subtle smoke and spice nuances on the nose. A step up in intensity, clarity and energy in the middle palate from the Mâcon-Villages and Saint-Véran, with apple and pear flavors accented by spices. Still a bit warm and probably best suited for drinking over the next three years, before it loses its delicate fruit. - Stephen Tanzer" - Antonio Galloni's Vinous (October 2016), 88 pts
2014 Maurice Martin Pouilly Fuissé - 88 PTS - WINE VALUE - WA
"Another excellent wine is their 2014 Pouilly-Fuissé, which sees half of the production aged in cask and the other on its lees in tank. This is a fruity style of wine with a touch of vanilla, white peach, honeysuckle and poached pear. It is elegant, medium-bodied and an excellent value in high-quality Pouilly-Fuissé." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (March 2016), 88 pts - Excellent Wine Values for Under $25
2014 Maurice Martin Pouilly Fuissé - 88 PTS - VINOUS
"Pale, bright yellow. Restrained, fresh aroma of orange juice. Savory and lightly saline in the mouth; the suavest of this set of 2014s but still a bit dusty and edgy on the back end, with a touch of citrussy tartness. These wines could use more depth. - Stephen Tanzer" - Antonio Galloni's Vinous (The Maconnais on the Move, December 2015), 88 pts
