Winery Philosophy: By putting our heart into every aspect of every bottle of wine made over the last twenty five years, we have earned the enviable reputation of formidable wine with absolute reliability. We are determined to live up to this for another twenty five years.
The Winery: All Sherwood Estate’s production and processing is done at the winery in Waipara, from fruit receival, crushing, pressing, fermentation, racking, filtering, bottling and dispatch. The winery is fully accredited under Sustainable Winegrowers guidelines. The wine making team of Petter Evans and Ian Whiteaker are dedicated to maximising the potential of every grape grown on the vineyards and ensuring that every bottle of wine that rolls off the bottling line meets the exacting standards that are expected. Sherwood Estate operate their own modern and fully equipped winery where all winemaking tasks are undertaken from crushing and pressing — through to bottling, under the careful guidance of Senior Winemaker, Petter Evans.
The Vineyards: Sherwood Estate's winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, a 45-minute drive north of the city of Christchurch, where Sherwood Estate own five separate vineyards. One vineyard is also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Sherwood Estate is very much a personal family business, with Dayne and Jill owning and operating it since the late 1980's.
The Vinterra Pinot Gris 2011 was produced from fruit grown on Mackenzie’s Road vineyard in Waipara, North Canterbury. The fruit was machine harvested in excellent condition and gently pressed prior to settling. The fermentation was carried out in tanks with 5% in French oak. The wine was then blended, lightly fined and bottled.
A great Pinot Gris for all those summer occasions!
