2022 Domaine Johann Michel Cornas Mere Michel - 94 PTS - WS

wine spectator 94 pts"A heavy-duty bruiser of a Cornas, with impressive power and style. Seriously dense and concentrated, with opulence matched by freshness. The tannins are nicely managed yet maintain a strong hold on the core of blackberry, mocha, mint and crushed herbs. Full, with subtle chewiness on the finish, which stretches way out. One for the cellar. Best from 2027 through 2040.- Kristen Bieler"

"The tiny production 2022 Cornas Mère Michel is 100% Serine that was not destemmed and was aged 14 months in French oak. Tighter and more focused, this beautiful wine reveals ripe red and blue fruits that give way to more spice, leather, graphite, and mineral notes. More medium to full-bodied, with a firm spine of tannins, it's impressive but will need time."

"Brilliant blackberries, cassis, graphite, charred meats, and liquid rock-like minerality emerge from the 2023 Cornas Mère Michel, along with peppery, roasted herb nuances that show as it sits in the glass. Vinified with 100% whole clusters and from the les Côtes lieu-dit, it's medium to full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, has fine, polished tannins, stunning purity, perfect balance, and incredible length. It doesn't quite have the elegance of the Jana release but brings more overt power and structure, placing it among the crème de la crème of the vintage. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades. Drink 2030-2050."
