maipe reserva malbec 2013 hq bottle"Chakana’s wines are getting better with every vintage under winemaker Gabriel Bloise." - Tim Atkin, Argentina Special Report

Warm up with these juicy, 90+ point reds from Argentina!

2015 Chakana Estate Red Blend - "A 60/40 blend of malbec and cabernet sauvignon, this wine's fruit gains its freshness and floral notes from a high-altitude, cool-climate site. Texturally round, it had a lovely, creamy texture, with spices all over the palate. A charming flowery finish adds complexity. Think of grilled pork tenderloin to go with it." - Wine & Spirits Magazine (February 2017), 92 pts

2014 Chakana Estate Malbec"...the nose is ripe and fruit-driven, with aromas of dark cherries and plums plus a subdued minerality and a touch of spices. Most noticeable is the really well-integrated oak (only founder and well-seasoned barrels are used for this wine). The palate is juicy, fresh and has good balance with a somewhat bittersweet finish that is attractive and commercial. This is a great expression of fresh and elegant Malbec from Altamira at a very attractive price point." - The Wine Advocate (Issue #220, August 2015), 91 pts
    93pts Tim Atkin / 91pts Wine & Spirits Magazine

2014 Maipe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon"Fascinating aromas of dark berry, dried flower and fresh herb. Full body, tight and ripe fruit and a juicy finish. Very pretty length and firmness. Drink or hold." - James Suckling (May 23rd 2016), 92 pts

2015 Maipe Reserve Malbec"A red with lots of dried fruit and spices follow through to a medium to full body, silky tannins and a fresh finish. Drink now."

  • Week of 11/23/15 - Turkey Wines!

chakana estate selection malbec bottleGobble Gobble! In between wine shipments, we've been sharing family recipes and plans for our Thanksgiving feasts. Fran chimed in with his top wine picks for Turkey Day - Chakana Estate Malbec and Gambellara Soave.

With its light aromas of apple, almond, pear, Gambellara's Soave offers a pleasant, creamy texture in the mouth. This 100% Garganega is lightly flavored with an interesting acidity. The soil's volcanic origin gives a nice presence of mineral saltiness. A great choice for turkey.

Chakana Estate Malbec is deep an intense. This 90pt value has a "deep well of dark currant, kirsch and dried blueberry flavors interwoven with an intense spiciness. Shows a powerful structure, with a pure, fresh and minerally finish filled with loamy and dark chocolate notes." (Wine Spectator) It's begging to be paired with roasted meat or duck.

No matter your wine choice, all of us at Kysela wish our customers a very happy Thanksgiving!

  • Week of 9/14/15 - Maipe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

maipe cabsauv rsv btl2We've been seeing some exciting new arrivals here at Kysela over the past few months, but let's face it - the classics are hard to beat! One of our favorite wines from one of our favorite wineries is Chakana Winery's Maipe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

For starters, Maipe was the Lord of the Winds for the ancient Andean Indians. He is still called upon to clear the skies after heavy rain, or to temper the summer heat. Especially the heat wave over Kysela's warehouse this past week.

Maipe Reserve is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 70% of the wine is aged 12 months in French oak barrels to fully reveal the character of the Andean terroir, and the remaining 30% is aged in concrete vats. Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate praised this value, saying "...this lush wine is a terrific value in Cabernet Sauvignon... It's deep ruby color is accompanied by uncomplicated notes of blackcurrants, licorice and a touch of vanilla. Medium-bodied, straightforward, delicious and surprisingly concentrated for a wine in this price range, it should drink well for 3-6 years. It is not easy to find Cabernet Sauvignon for under $25 a bottle at this quality level, but this 2013 delivers"

So while you're summoning Maipe, Lord of the Winds, to cool things down...enjoy a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve!
