Hoopla The Mutt Red Blend Napa Valley
Hoopes Vineyard
United States - California - Napa Valley

Hoopla wines are irresistible, energetic, and fun – just like the winery's rescue dogs, Maya and Sophie. Good wine does not need to be too serious to enjoy, and that is their philosophy.

“The Mutt” was inspired by Maya and Sophie, our beloved rescue dogs. “The Mutt,” like Maya and Sophie, is playful, unique and interesting. The grapes used are the “seconds”—what we don’t use in our premium wines, we salvage and use in “The Mutt.” Maya and Sophie aren’t shy about their pedigrees, and we’re not shy about using “seconds,” either, because they make a wine made from premium grapes very affordable and tasty, too. So come take a walk on the wild side—this Merlotful red blend will have you running through the vineyards, leaping for joy!

Intense Boysenberry and cinnamon spices upfront are backed by vanilla and brown sugar notes. The palate is rich with ripe cherry and sandalwood and finishes with dry tannins.

Whole berries gently moved to stainless steel tank for fermentation. Three day cold soak. 14 day active fermentation. Three pumpovers per day at peak and two delestage at mid-fermentation. Drained directly to barrel and completed ML in barrel. Aging is 50% new, 50% once-used — 100% French Oak from coopers Taransaud, Sylvain, Bossuet, Orion and Atelier Centre France.
Lees stirred monthly until the wine was racked in April. Continued to age for a total of 24 months and racked for the second time gently to tank before bottling.

This wine will pair well with anything grilled especially a double cut Pork Chop or Rib Eye steak and is best served with roast fingerling potatoes tossed in sea salt and rosemary.

natalie mclean logo"From Napa Valley, California, Hoopla The Mutt 2018 is a dry, full-bodied and juicy red wine blend of 95% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petite Sirah. The wine aged 18 months in French oak barrels. Look for bright cherry, red currant, spiced plum and smoky vanilla flavours balanced with food-friendly acidity and a satisfyingly long finish.
