2023 Domaine de la Mordorée Tavel Rosé La Plume du Peintre - 94 PTS - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The ultra-premium, tiny-production 2023 Domaine De La Mordoree Tavel La Plume Du Peintre is based on 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the balance equal parts Clairette and Cinsault, all of which was brought up in barrel. It pushes the boundaries of what rosé is and can be, getting closer to a light red than a traditional rosé, which may be where Tavel fits best anyway. It shows a translucent ruby hue and offers complex yet still reserved aromatics of red cherries, sappy garrigue, spicy nuances, and a touch of background oak that’s beautifully integrated. This carries to a medium-bodied, almost medium to full-bodied rosé with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and flawless overall balance. Despite being raised entirely in wood, this is one of those rare high-end rosés that brings greater richness, depth, and complexity while still staying light in feel, balanced, clean, and crisp. It’s geared for gastronomy and is an incredibly classy rosé that should have another year or two of prime drinking"
