Icono Malbec represents the winery's special selection of the best lots. These top grapes are from Penedo Borges' Agrelo vineyard, 3,400 feet above sea level, which receives special canopy management to achieve complex, concentrated wines.
The wine boasts a dark violet color and exhibits complex aromas of dominant ripe red fruits like plums, cherries and raspberries. The oak aging brings notes of chocolate and vanilla, giving the wine complexity and elegance. On the palate the wine shows great volume, structure, balanced roundness and a long finish.
Pairs well with grilled red meats, roast lamb, beef stews, strong cheese.
"This has dark, chocolatey character with notes of black fruit, vanilla, pinewood and hazelnuts. Medium-to full-bodied, compact and a little tight with a firm texture and bright acidity. Layered. Needs time to open and soften. Cabernet franc, petit verdot, malbec, cabernet sauvignon and syrah. Drink now."

"Ripe berry and cassis aromas come with a blast of potent oak, but overall the nose on this Malbec is appealing in a bold manner. Airing is vital to smoothing out the tartaric bite this brings, while flavors of blackberry, dark plum, vanilla and mocha finish long and smoother than the palate. Drink this fully oaked and powerfully built Malbec through 2027. - MICHAEL SCHACHNER"

"Seductive meatiness and a white-pepper note set up the background of this wine, which is then filled with black and blue fruit and pencil lead, framed by a tense, firm tannin structure. Ending long. Drink or hold."

"Ripe cassis and raisin aromas include welcome notes of marzipan and vanilla. This is thorough and lush on the palate, with weight and depth. Chocolate, vanilla and spice accents aid core blackberry and cassis flavors, while this is luscious and loaded on a rich, ripe finish; drink through 2027. - Michael SCHACHNER"

"This inky Malbec opens with an oaky blend of vanilla, blackberry, prune, cassis and tobacco aromas. A compact, firm palate is just lush enough, while oak-based flavors of cinnamon and baking spices rest on top of spiced plum and cassis. A peppery finish is intermixed with tobacco notes. Drink through 2021. - Michael SCHACHNER"
