"On the nose, the 2016 Clonal Selection Elgin Syrah is softly floral with a mineral tone and subtle hints of black fruit plus nuances of black pepper. The palate shows tremendous complexity with skillfully balanced oak tones over blackberries, fresh herbs and fresh cracked black pepper. The finish is elegantly focused and something special. Power and elegance at its finest. This is akin to something from the northern Rhône without the tight mineral grip. Well done! A truly beautiful wine. 9,300 bottles were made. - Anthony Mueller"

"The 2016 Clonal Selection Elgin Syrah is a blend of around eight parcels, all individually micro-vinified and matured with varying levels of new oak, from zero up to 70%. Limpid in the glass, it has a glorious, pure bouquet of red currant, raspberry and mulberry scents that are seductive and very Burgundian – think Vosne-Romanée! The palate is rounded on the entry, offering lively red berry fruit laced with white pepper, fennel and a subtle charcoal note. There is a slight grittiness toward the finish, which is well structured and persistent. This is both a delicious and an intellectual Syrah. - Neal Martin"
"Medium dusty ruby color. Aromas and flavors of black olive, leather, black tea, soil, violets, dried sage, dried blueberry, and fresh blackberry with a silky, lively, dry light-to-medium body and a smooth, complex, very long finish conveying notes of vanilla and espresso with fine, well-integrated, firm tannins and light oak flavor. A delicious Syrah that balances the bright and the brooding - full of dark fruit and coastal brush notes"
"This has a gorgeous, lifted nose that combines perfumed fruit and oak spice to heady effect. Soft, plush and fresh on the palate, with pinpoint raspberry acidity and lingering rose perfume. It’s matured in barriques and 500-litre French oak barrels, half new, the other half recently used – the oak plays an integral part and it’s applied with great skill. Displaying exceptional tannic finesse, this is a thrilling and emotive Syrah. Matt Walls"
"Richard Kershaw uses three Syrah clones (SH9C, 22 and 29) to produce this pan-Elgin cuvée. Entirely destemmed, it has classic white pepper scents, with a hint of lavender, lots of spice and tapenade tangy acidity and impressive underlying concentration. 2022-27"
