2018 Thorn Clarke Single Vineyard Mataro - 88 PTS - WE

wine enthusiast 88 pts"This is a high-octane wine with some funky, reductive notes on the nose. With time in glass, it reveals lovely ripe blue and black fruit, along with softer notes of violet, olive brine, dried herbs and cola-like oak. There's a fair whack of alcohol on the palate that can be felt, alongside the plush fruit and barrel influence. The muscular tannins are nicely textural but a touch bitter, especially at the finish. - CHRISTINA PICKARD"

2018 Thorn Clarke Single Vineyard Mataro - 90 PTS - WA

wa90"From one of the Hoffmann family's Ebenezer district vineyards, the 2018 Single Vineyard Selection Mataro matured exclusively in older oak. It's earthy and complex, with notes of cola, sarsaparilla and allspice on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is savory and softly dusty, ending in a wash of ripe tannins.- Joe Czerwinski"

2018 Thorn Clarke Single Vineyard Mataro - 93 PTS - W&S

wine and spirits logo 250"Peter Kelly makes this wine from a parcel in northern Barossa along Ebenezer Road, where the vines grown in sandy loam soils. This is a vibrant red with concentrated fresh boysenberry fruit and equally fresh tannins, mataro in all its primitive glory. The tannins bring dark notes of salty black beans and cumin spice, while the fruit cuts through with a prickle of acidity. It’s a spicy, untamed red with a long horizon line of flavor."
