2017 Gimenez Mendez Alta Reserva Tannat - 90 PTS - TA

tim atkin logo 250"Aged in American oak because it gives Tannat "better polymerisation", according to winemaker Gastón Vitale, this is certainly sweeter and more coconutty than most of the bodega's other reds. Smooth and supple, it has plenty of bramble and black cherry fruit and a backbone of tannin. 2021-25"

2017 Gimenez Mendez Alta Reserva Tannat - 93 PTS - SJ

somm journal purple logo"From the South Atlantic, this iconic grape of Uruguay shows itself here as tarry and chalky, with blue sage and black plum on its shadowed, haunting frame. It tames out at mid-palate, revealing brown sugar, cedar, and boysenberry. Aged nine months in French and American oak, Tannat is considered the “healthiest” grape due to much higher levels of antioxidants."

2017 Gimenez Mendez Alta Reserva Tannat - Extraordinary *** - WP

wplogo"Uruguay has banked on tannat for its wine reputation. This beauty from Gimenez Mendez should help spread the word. The wine is firm yet not overly tannic, chock full of berry and black cherry flavors with noticeable oak influence from nine months in American and French barrels. Very polished and modern. - Dave McIntyre"

"This wine has a bouquet of cherry, plum and black olive. Tannins are smooth and firm, supporting a palate with meaty plum and oaky notes. Lively acidity balances out the flavors. It finishes with hints of coffee. - Jesica VARGAS"

2020 Gimenez Mendez Alta Reserva Tannat - 92 PTS - TA

tim atkin logo 250"Sourced from the family's holdings in Las Brujas, this is a subtle, engagingly floral Tannat that doesn't have to try too hard to impress. Chalky and fresh, with subtle reduction, fine tannins, racy minerality and bramble and black cherry fruit. 2023-28."
