NV Colmant Brut Chardonnay - 89 PTS - VINOUS

vinous logo"(45 months on the lees): Bright straw-yellow. Deep nutty, toasty macadamia, toffee and maple syrup notes along with yellow apple and ripe pear on the nose. Brisk and intense, showing an attractive yeast autolysis character as well as a slightly oxidative apple dryness--probably from a percentage of older reserve juice--that's countered by intriguing salinity and sound acidity. Finishes with good salty persistence. This sparkling wine grew on me.- Stephen Tanzer"

tim atkin logo 250"Youthful and refreshing for a wine that has spent 45 months on its lees, Colmant’s all-Chardonnay bubbly benefits from partial barrel-fermentation, adding a savoury note. Textured and dry, with a creamy mid-palate and fine bubbles. 2017-23."

vinous logo"The Brut Chardonnay (disgorged May 2017) includes 15% base wine that is barrel-fermented, 20% from the previous year’s harvest, with 45 months on the lees. This has a deep bouquet of green apple, hints of tropical fruit and a touch of brioche. The palate is well balanced with a creamy texture, plenty of Granny Smith apples on the midpalate and a touch of oyster shell on the finish. Very fine and very champagne-like in style.- Neal Martin"

NV Colmant Brut Chardonnay - 91+ PTS - WA

wa"A blanc de blanc with the heart of Chardonnay, the NV Brut Chardonnay has focused citrus tones on the nose with notes of yellow pear and green apple. The oak is subtle here, with a solid beam of acidity through the mid-palate. The wine is thoughtful and focused, and the finish leaves my mouth watering; there is serious acidity here, and they are doing it right. Colmant is the little guy doing some really great things— quietly focused wines, with serious aging potential. Keep this small producer on your radar. I expect nothing but great things in years to come from JP Colmant and his new winemaker, Paul Gerber, formerly of Le Lude. - Anthony Mueller"

NV Colmant Brut Chardonnay - 92 PTS - eRobertParker.com

"Disgorged March 2011, the superb Non-Vintage Brut Chardonnay is based on the 2007 vintage, whole bunch pressed with 18% fermented in oak and 45 months on the lees. It has a very subtle, more “wine-like” bouquet with very fine delineation, dewy green apples, a touch of wet limestone and a touch of flint. The palate has good weight on the entry with fresh green apple once again mingling with a little peach and Clementine in the background leading to a racy finish. - NM"

tim atkin logo 250"The core of this wine, which subsequently spent 52 months on lees, comes from the 2015 vintage and shows the ageing potential for which Colmant bubblies are famous. Savoury, fresh and intense, with plenty of colour, added complexity from reserve material, notes of aniseed and citrus peel and a fine, refreshing finish. 2021-25"

NV Colmant Brut Chardonnay - 93 PTS - TA 2021

tim atkin logo 250"Using a base from the 2016 vintage, blended with 20% of what Paul Gerber calls a "perpetual reserve", this lightly oaked Chardonnay bubbly marries fruit from three different regions. It's wonderfully floral, pure and elegant, with 4.8 grams of dosage, notes of brioche, aniseed and white pepper and a taut, chalky, refined finish. 2022-28"
