2014 Saumaize Michelin St Véran Les Crèches - 89 PTS - VINOUS

vinous logo 250"(assembled in cuve, on its finings; from vines in Davayé on what is essentially a prolongation of the hillside from La Roche, but east-facing, at lower altitude and on "softer rock"): Pale yellow-green. Lemon, lime and crushed rock on the nose, along with hints of licorice and spearmint. At once thick and crystalline in the mouth, with good density and a hint of sweetness leavened by firm acidity and underlying chalky character. Still a bit tart but finishes with noteworthy intensity and lift. This wine will be bottled without filtration. - Stephen Tanzer"

2015 Saumaize Michelin St Véran Les Crèches - 88-90 PTS - VINOUS

vinous logo 250"(just racked and sulfured but still has about 60% of its malic acidity; Saumaize will filter the wine and add a bit more SO2 than usual, noting that he doesn't have any choice): Cool aromas of mirabelle, menthol, citrus fruits and ripe apple. Fat and powerful in the mouth, with a distinct malic note to the apple and spice flavors. Finishes saline and long. This wine will need a year or two in bottle to harmonize. - Stephen Tanzer"

2016 Saumaize Michelin St Véran Les Crèches - 89 PTS - VINOUS

vinous logo 250"Bright medium yellow. Ripe apple and white peach aromas are complicated by cooler notes of menthol and white pepper. In a fleshy, smooth style, conveying a fine-grained texture to its orchard fruit and apple flavors. This wine is from a southeast-facing site on degraded powdery calcaire at the foot of La Roche de Vergisson, which Christine Saumaize says produces wines that are light and full at the same time. Finishes dry in a positive way, with some youthfully stony bitterness to resolve. - Stephen Tanzer"
