Deeply pitched, smoky pear and peach pit aromas are brightened by gingery spices, a hint of quinine and dusty minerals. Intense orchard and pit fruit flavors stain the palate, picking up citrus zest and bitter pear skin qualities with air. Succulent herb and anise notes linger on the strikingly long, chewy, penetrating finish, which features suave leesy and mineral qualities."

wa93"The 2012 Capitel is produced with the fruit of centenary, head-pruned, ungrafted Verdejo grapes grown in Nieva, in the province of Segovia. This is the cooler part of the Rueda appellation on a limited part of the village where the soils are rich in slate and the vineyards are located at nearly 900 meters altitude. As soon as you put your nose in the glass you know this wine is different, and I think the soil immediately makes it different from the rest of the wines from the region. It has a marked balsamic personality, with aromas of cedar wood, bay leaf, cigar ash and yellow fruit. The palate is powerful, shows good concentration, balance and acidity, if still a little marked by the oak, ending dry and with an austere, mineral sensation. I'd be interested to see how this wine ages. This is a powerful, concentrated Verdejo full of character. Drink now-2020. - Luis Gutierrez"

wa93"The top of the range here is produced with the oldest vines Ossian has, in the cold village of Nieva (Segovia) on slate soils at 900 meters altitude. The 2013 Capitel is truly different from all the rest of the wines I've tasted from the region; there are not that many vineyards on slate soils. There are some fine balsamic and creamy aromas over a core of yellow plums, Indian spices and wet stones (a touch of moss? freshly cut grass on wet stones?). The palate is powerful, with pungent flavors and a marked bitter note in the finish; it is very intense and almost piquant. It has the concentration, structure and acidity to develop nicely in bottle. Some 2,200 bottles were produced. - Luis Gutierrez"

Thrilling notes of orchard fruits, white flowers, crushed rocks and toasted bread all flow to a full-bodied, concentrated white that has perfect balance, bright acidity, and a great, great finish. It knocks it out of the park on all accounts and is an incredible Verdejo that has both richness and elegance."
