"Made from 100% hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, two-thirds of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve spent 12 months in French oak and one-third in concrete. It is a classic Mendoza Cabernet Sauvignon from alluvial soils. Maipe owns significant acreage in two main vineyards, Agrelo and Alta Mira. Classic notes of creme de cassis, cedarwood and vanillin are accompanied by a wine with a beautiful, full-bodied texture, deep, rich, concentrated flavors and a long finish. For $15.00, it is impossible to find a Cabernet Sauvignon this good from anywhere else in the world. Maipe is one of my favorite value selections from Fran Kysela as the wines are exceptionally well-made, and sell for a song."

"This large winery in Mendoza, Argentina makes numerous wines under the Maipe, Chakana and Cueva de las Manos labels. Almost all of them represent good values. The 2013 Maipe Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, primarily aged 12 months in French oak, although about one-third of the fruit is aged in concrete. This lush wine is a terrific value in Cabernet Sauvignon, but unfortunately, only 3,000 cases are available in America. Its deep ruby color is accompanied by uncomplicated notes of blackcurrants, licorice and a touch of vanilla. Medium-bodied, straightforward, delicious and surprisingly concentrated for a wine in this price range, it should drink well for 3-6 years. It is not easy to find Cabernet Sauvignon for under $25 a bottle at this quality level, but this 2013 delivers. - Robert Parker"
"Fascinating aromas of dark berry, dried flower and fresh herb. Full body, tight and ripe fruit and a juicy finish. Very pretty length and firmness. Drink or hold."
"Ripe berry, vanilla, tobacco and oak aromas announce a tight and firm palate with juicy acidity and hard tannins. Oaky berry flavors come with a tobacco note, while prune and woody flavors rise up on a finish with grab and edginess. - MICHAEL SCHACHNER"
