2012 Mas des Capitelles Faugeres Vieilles Vignes - 89 PTS - WINE VALUE - WA

wa89"A real beauty, this blend of 50% Mourvèdre and the rest equal parts Carignan and Syrah is aged in 20% French oak with the balance in tank. It comes from the schist-like soils of this estate's 60 acres of vineyard. This is a fragrant, gamy style of wine with a deep ruby/purple color and loads of new saddle leather, roasted meats, herbs and flowers. The wine has beautiful ripeness, medium to full body, and a long, lush, heady finish. Drink it over the next 2-3 years."

"A whopper of a Faugeres, the 2015 Faugeres Vieilles Vignes is a ripe, forward, sexy effort that offers plenty of black fruits, pepper, smoked herbs and Asian spices. Made from 50% Mourvedre, 25% Carignan and 25% Syrah, with a small part aged in barrel, it has loads of character, a supple texture and chewy tannin, all suggesting it will drink nicely for 4-5 years."

2015 Mas des Capitelles Faugeres Vieilles Vignes - 90 PTS - BEST BUY - W&S

wine and spirits logo 250"If you like the chewy, leathery notes of old-vine carignan, you’ll appreciate this wine. Based on biodynamically farmed, 80-year-old carignan with 20 percent mourvèdre, it smells like blood sausage hitting a hot cast-iron pan, sanguine and meaty scents blending with notes of cinnamon and bay leaf. Those savory notes carry through the flavors, too, red-berry fruit providing an undercurrent of juiciness. Pleasantly rustic, it would be delicious this winter with a thick cut of meat or a wild-mushroom fricassee."

2016 Mas des Capitelles Faugeres Vieilles Vignes - 92 PTS - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Even better, the 2016 Faugères Vieilles Vignes checks in as 50% Mourvèdre and 25% each of Carignan and Syrah, brought up in 80% tanks and 20% French oak. Deeper colored, with a powerful bouquet of dark fruits, plums, crushed rocks, and licorice, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, loads of fruit, a stacked mid-palate, and a great finish. It’s not the most elegant wine out there, but it has loads of character and is a joy to drink. Enjoy bottles over the coming 7-8 years."

2018 Mas des Capitelles Faugeres Vieilles Vignes - 91 PTS - JD

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Just about overflowing with character, the 2018 Faugères Vieilles Vignes (Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Syrah) reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as great nose of flowery incense, garrigue, licorice, ground pepper, and black cherries. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, rounded, supple Faugères with some obvious minerality, impressive fruit, and some firm underlying tannins. It needs a year or so for the tannins to soften, but it's a delicious drink already."
