2013 Chateau Mazane Vacqueyras Rouge - 90-92 PTS - VINOUS

vinous logo 250"Opaque ruby. Powerful, spice-accented dark berry and floral pastille aromas are complicated by suggestions of licorice and cola. Sweet and broad in the mouth, offering intense boysenberry and cherry flavors and a good whack of peppery spices. Closes on a chewy note, with building tannins and a lingering note of candied licorice. In a brawny style and built for cellaring, or so it appears at this stage. - Josh Raynolds"

2015 Chateau Mazane Vacqueyras Rouge - 90-92 PTS - WA

wa300"From a newly purchased estate in Vacqueyras, the Jaume 2015 Vacqueyras Chateau Mazane is similar to the Grande Garrigue, yet has a touch more concentration and purity, and a more focused, streamlined feel on the palate. Asian spices, pepper, lavender, plums and blackberry jam all emerge from this layered, gorgeous red that’s packed with Southern Rhone charm. I prefer the sexiness of the Grande Garrigue a touch more, but both of these 2015 tank samples are beautiful. - Jeb Dunnuck"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Leading off the two Vacqueyras releases, the 2015 Vacqueyras Château Mazane is a beautiful blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. Offering classic notes of garrigue, pepper, toasted spices and assorted red fruits, it’s medium-bodied, elegant and polished on the palate, with terrific balance. Drink it through 2025."

wa91"The 2015 Vacqueyras Chateau Mazane, a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, was matured mostly in vat and boasts layers of elegant yet super ripe fruit and a dusting of ground cinnamon and cracked pepper. It's full-bodied and creamy in texture on the palate, ending with some tough, chewy tannins and a touch of warmth. Drink it over the next 5 years.- Joe Czerwinski"

wine enthusiast 91 pts"Sun-baked plum and berry aromas are accented by savory hints of charcuterie and dried herbs here. Fleshy black and red fruit flavors are concentrated and plush but elegantly restrained, balanced by fresh acidity. It's a voluptuous but well-integrated wine, marked by raspy, firm tannins that should melt over the next 3–5 years. - Anna Lee C. Iijima"

wa90"Unlike the 2015, the 2016 Vacqueyras Chateau Mazane skirts the very edge of over-ripeness. It does show lovely floral garrigue notes, but the fruit is also plummy and, at times, veers into the realm of warm chocolate fudge. Full-bodied and richly concentrated, I'd still opt to drink this over the near term. - Joe Czerwinski"
