2012 Thorn-Clarke Terra Barossa Shiraz Cabernet Petit Verdot - 89 PTS - WA

wa89"This is one of my go-to wineries for top values from the Barossa Valley in Australia. The Thorn family has been growing grapes since the 1870s, and the quality of these wines is impressive. Moreover, the prices are almost ridiculously low, making these wines frequent entries in The Wine Advocate. All of the following wines are produced from 100% Barossa Valley fruit from what they call the Kabininge Vineyard. The 2012 Terra Barossa Proprietary Red, a blend of 69% Shiraz, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot aged 12 months in a combination of French and American oak, is a wine that over-delivers. Its deep purple color is followed by notes of blueberries, licorice, camphor, chocolate and a background hint of espresso. This is a big, chewy, rich, fruit-bomb with enough oak to provide additional character. Enjoy it over the next 3-4 years. - Robert Parker"
