tim atkin logo 250"This inspiring, revolutionary blend of Chardonnay with 30% Semillón was first made in 2006 and has been one of Argentina’s best whites ever since. New oak-fermented and aged, with subtle baking spice and toast aromas, waxed lemon, saffron and beeswax flavours, lovely texture and weight and a fresh, tangy finish. 2023-30"

wa93"The style of the white 2020 Lágrima Canela has changed completely;the wine is fresher and less ripe, with a lot less oak. It's a blend of 70%Chardonnay and 30% Semillon from Gualtallary, and it is sharp, freshand citrusy with a mineral sensation lifted by the freshness andacidity. It fermented in 300-liter French oak barrels, where it maturedfor eight months. It's an improvement over previous years. 15,000bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2022. - Luis Gutiérrez"

vinous logo"The 2020 Blend Lágrima Canela is primarily Chardonnay with 30% Sémillon from the Uco Valley. It was aged for up to 10 months in new French and American oak barrels. Golden in hue. The creamed corn nose features vanilla and toasted cedar notes alongside caramel, honey, and stewed apple. Indulgent and creamy in the mouth, the expansive mouthfeel is enhanced by the refreshing acidity before the prolix, élevage-inflected finish. A continental white made with a nod to California.- Joaquín Hidalgo"

vinous logo"The 2019 Lágrima Canela is a blend of Chardonnay with 30% Sémillon from the Uco Valley, aged for up to 10 months in French and American barrels. Greenish yellow in the glass. The complex nose offers notes of cedar, nutmeg, cinnamon and caramel against a backdrop of white fruit, green apple and herbs. In the mouth it’s voluminous with a creamy texture and a gentle palate, while the freshness creeps up on you almost imperceptibly, stretching out and enhancing the sweet spice flavors, followed by a bourbon-like smoky finish. A barrel-aged white with an excellent character bound to please lovers of the style. - Joaquín Hidalgo"

tim atkin logo 250"Revolutionary in its day, and still one of Argentina’s leading white blends, Lágrima Canela marries Chardonnay with 30% Semillón, all of it from Gualtallary at 1,200 metres. Fermented separately and aged in new French oak, this is fresh, intense and pale in colour, with subtle camomile and beeswax aromas, spicy oak and layers of citrus and quince fruit. This will age really well too."

wa92"The 70% Chardonnay and 30% Semillon white 2018 Lágrima Canela feels balanced and fresh, balsamic and a little medicinal with moderate alcohol and nice acidity. It fermented in 300-liter French oak barrels, where the wine matured for eight months. It's nicely textured and has a long and clean finish. It transmits harmony and precision. 5,000 bottles were filled in January 2020. - Luis Gutiérrez"

vinous logo"Pale, bright lemon-yellow. Pungent aromas of lemon zest, toast and subtle baking spices, plus a suggestion of redcurrant. Dense, supple and fine-grained, with its lovely citrus and white peach and subtle smoky oak flavors conveying a seductive umami texture that should make it versatile at the dinner table, especially considering its energy. A very substantial and impeccably balanced vintage for this distinctive Chardonnay/Semillon blend, showing lovely subtle sweetness and salinity to its persistent flavors of fruits, flowers and spices. This may well go on for longer than my projected drinking plane suggests, but it's awfully good right now. (aged in new French oak for 14 months) - Stephen Tanzer"

tim atkin logo 250"Always among the best white blends in Argentina, this cuvée of Chardonnay with 30% Semillon is lightly oaked with some malolactic fermentation for added texture. Stone fruit and herbal flavours flow across the tongue, with some baking spices and a soft, caressing finish. 2018-21."

wa"The white 2017 Lágrima Canela is a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Sémillon from a warm and dry year, and the wine is not shy at 14.5% alcohol with 7.7 grams of unfermented sugar. It has a toasty and buttery nose reminiscent of some Chardonnays from the past. It finished fermenting and matured in new French oak barrels for seven months. It has ripe and oaky flavors but lacks a bit in the middle. 6,500 bottles were filled in April 2018. - Luis Gutiérrez"

vinous logo"(14.5% alcohol; aged in new French oak): Pale straw-yellow. Lemon and orange zest, musky lees, baking spices, anise and dusty herbs on the expressive nose. Surprisingly sweet on entry, but nicely firmed by harmonious acidity and spicy oak. Not especially complex or delineated, but a substantial dinner-table white wine with a glyceral umami quality and a persistent, smooth finish. Not quite as vibrant in the middle as the 2016 version but this is smoother and longer. - Stephen Tanzer"

2016 Bressia Lagrima Canela - 94 PTS - Descorchados

descorchados2018 logo"This wine is a blend that’s on the way to become a classic on the Argentine wine scene. The first vintage was 2006 and since then has shown the potential of first the Chardonnay from Gualtallary, and then, the Semillón from Agua Amarga. Both the Chardonnay and Semillón vines were planted in the mid-90’s. The wine is aged between 8 and 12 months in new oak barrels and as a result, it needs time. In a young wine, like this 2015, the wood tends to play a major role, but checking on earlier vintages we see how the wood gives way to the weight of the fruit, thanks to the heft of this white with the structure of a red."

wa93"The ambitious 2016 Lágrima Canela, a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Sémillon, feels fresher and more harmonious than in previous years in this tenth vintage. It matured in new French oak barrels for ten months, a shorter élevage that seems to have respected the fruit, and the wine comes through as fresher and more balanced, with great acidity and harmony. The flavors are delineated and clean, with a long, mineral finish. This has to be my favorite Lágrima Canela to date. It should age nicely in bottle. - Luis Gutiérrez"

wa91"The white 2015 Lágrima Canela felt better balanced than the 2013 I tasted last time. It's a blend of Chardonnay from Gualtallary with 30% Semillon from Tunuyán in the Uco Valley. It's a barrel-fermented blend that matured for eight months in new 300-liter French oak barrels, but somehow the fruit is in the forefront, and the oak feels better integrated than in the past. The palate also has very good freshness and is nicely textured, with an impressive, long and persistent finish. It's very tasty and faintly balsamic. It's very drinkable now, but time in bottle should only do it good. 5,000 bottles were filled in November 2015. Luis Gutiérrez"

wine enthusiast 90 pts"Waxy, dusty apple and oak aromas reflect the 30% Sémillon, but this is mostly Chardonnay in quantity, style, feel and flavors. Salty melon, tropical notes and nicely laid-out oak flavors turn a touch bitter on a weighty but healthy finish. Drink this classy white blend through 2018."

Wine Advocate 90 ptsMuch more convincing is the 2009 Lagrima Canela, blend of Chardonnay and Semillon aged in oak barrels for 14 months. It has a lively Hunter Valley inspired bouquet of dried honey and grapefruit, the Semillon working well alongside the Chardonnay. The palate is well-balanced, with a slightly viscous honeyed entry, segueing into a peach and nectarine-driven middle and a waxy, lemon curd tinged finish that nods to the Southern Rhone. What an intriguing white! I will be interested to see how this ages. Drink now-2018.
