Wolfberger Cremant d'Alsace Brut
Wolfberger
France - Alsace

The wines from Alsace date back to 589 A.D., but Cremant d’Alsace has more recent beginnings, starting in 1900.  Dopff au Moulin (founded in 1574) was the first to produce Cremant d’Alsace in the Method Champenoise style.  Cremant d’Alsace received AOC status for sparkling wine in 1976.  Two types of Cremant are produced today, resulting in about 2.5 million+ cases of Cremant d’Alsace production annually:

  • Cremant d’Alsace, Brut – represents the majority of Cremant d' Alsace production. Uses Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Auxerrois, and Chardonnay.
  • Cremant d’Alsace, Brut Rosé – much rarer, as it is 100% Pinot Noir only.

Wolfberger's Cremant d'Alsace Brut has a pale golden color. Fine, persistent bubbles. Floral nose with a hint of spiciness, gentle fruitiness (peach, apricot), and lovely balance. Fruity and lively in the palate, it has a clean and crisp finish.

Cremant d'Alsace is pleasant young, but can also age in the cellar for several years. It should be served well-chilled, to fully reveal its delicate flavor, aroma and freshness.

Vinification
The grapes used to produced Crémant d'Alsace are harvested early to reach optimum balance and harmony. Produced according to the methode traditionnelle, Alsace Crémants are racked in a nearly inverted position where they age patiently. Then, after 12 months minimum, they are riddled or turned so that the sediment collects in the neck of the bottles, awaiting disgorgement.
Pairings

Cremant d'Alsace is great as an aperitif, alone or with appetizers; it is delicious at the dinner table, particularly with seafood, salmon, shellfish, white meat and game, and harmoniously adapt to most desserts, cheese and majestically crowning a meal.

bti"Straw color. Bright, fruity, creamy aromas of green apple pastry, peaches in cream, and lemon chiffon with a supple, tangy, finely carbonated, dry-yet-fruity medium body and an effortless, amusing, medium-long white nuts, lime-pineapple sorbet, and minerals finish with no oak. A refreshing, tangy sparkling wine that will shine at the table."

iwinereview"Made the traditional method, this 90/10 blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois from the Alsace with a minimum of 12 months on the lees. Showing apple and shortbread on the nose, this Crémant has a lovely creamy, textured mouth feel and firm acidity that combine to offer unusual drinking pleasure in a wine of this price. If you’re trying to decide whether to buy a Prosecco or spend a few more dollars for this wine, I’d say go for it!"

wine enthusiast"There is a touch of apricot tart on the nose, with notes of juicy baked fruit and buttery crust. A tarter aspect comes from green apple. The palate is fresh and wraps the lively, cleanly delineated fruit into gentle pastry aromas. The body is elegant, the finish is dry and fresh and brings out more of that wonderful apple tartness. wine enthusiast 90 pts"Clean, poised, rounded notes of ripe, red-cheeked apples play on every front. There is something joyous and bountiful here. The frothy mousse accentuates the light-hearted but generous aspect on the dry but rounded palate, which also brings ample refreshment.- Anne Krebiehl, MW"
