jeb dunnuck logo 250"The Grand Vin 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Reine Des Bois checks in as a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest equal parts Syrah and Vaccarèse. This cuvée is always a denser, more concentrated and structured wine compared to the La Dame Voyageuse release and requires bottle age to show its full potential. Blackberries, black cherries, cracked pepper, and new leather notes are all present in this medium to full-bodied, concentrated, rich, and structured 2020. There's a firmness here that reminds me a little of the 2005, yet it's a more up-front, charming wine that will benefit from just short-term cellaring, which is very much in the style of the vintage."

Sappy and concentrated on the palate, showing vibrant lift and energy to intense blueberry, cherry cola, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that deepen with air. Finishes sweet, seamless and impressively long, with steadily building tannins adding shape and closing grip. - Josh Raynolds"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De La Reine des Bois is a deeper, more masculine wine with gorgeous cassis and blackberry fruits as well as graphite, licorice, crushed stone, violets, and lavender nuances. Rich, full-bodied, and incredibly concentrated, it has a brilliant sense of freshness and purity as well as length on the finish. It's going to require 4-5 years of bottle age, but this straight-up thrilling Châteauneuf du Pape will have 20-25 years of prime drinking."

Broad and fleshy in texture, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, boysenberry and bitter cherry flavors that turn sweeter as the wine opens up. Finishes with impressive clarity, well-judged tannins and superb, floral-driven persistence. - Josh Raynolds"

wa300"The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois (presented as a prospective blend, from tank and barrel) features scents of peppered raspberries. It's full-bodied but lively, with the creamy, lush feel that typifies this bottling, and a lingering finish. Despite all of the work required early in the season, it's turned out beautifully. - Joe Czerwinski"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The flagship is the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Reine Des Bois and it’s 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties. Aged 20% in old barrels (this was raised in new barrels in the past) and the rest in stainless steel, it’s more backward and closed compared to the Voyageuse release and has ample blackcurrants, smoked earth, graphite, and peppery garrigue aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and textured on the palate, it has solid underlying structure yet still plays in the balanced, charming, elegant style of the vintage. It’s beautifully done and certainly up with the top wines. It should drink nicely for 10-15 years."

Offers a nice mix of modern and old school. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Best from 2023 through 2036. —James MOLESWORTH"

Stains the palate with sweet boysenberry, raspberry preserve and floral pastille flavors sharpened by smoky mineral and white pepper flourishes. Shows impressive depth and power but comes off lively and delivers strong floral thrust and spicy lift on the extremely long, gently tannic finish. - Josh Raynolds"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The saturated purple-hued 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De La Reine Des Bois is another brilliant wine from this estate. Made from 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah and Vaccarèse (as well as a few other varieties) brought up in 80% stainless steel and 20% old barrels, it offers an extraordinary bouquet of blackcurrants, chocolaty herbs, ground pepper, and graphite. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it stays pure and flawlessly balanced on the palate, with silky tannins. I love everything about this wine, which reminds me of a slightly plusher example of the 2010. It has some upfront charm today and will continue drinking brilliantly for 15 years or more."

A highly perfumed bouquet displays ripe red and blue fruit preserve, incense, garrigue and cola aromas complicated by a vibrant mineral quality that gains strength as the wine opens up. Sweet, seamless and broad in the mouth, offering impressively concentrated Chambord, boysenberry, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that show superb clarity and lift. The blue fruit and floral notes power a strikingly long, spicy finish that's shaped by rounded, even tannins. This wine's marriage of heft to finesse is really impressive. - Josh Raynolds"

international wine report logo 2"The 2016 'Cuvée de la Reine des Bois' is a fabulous showing in this vintage. Composed of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah and a dash of Vaccarese and Counoise from 60 year-0ld vines. The fruit was de-stemmed prior to a long maceration and 30-day fermentation with temperature control. The final result is a simply fantastic wine which being with exotic aromas of dark berries, plums, cassis, moroccan spices, fresh cut florals hints of fresh coffee bean. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous medium body with wonderful freshness and bright acidity, as well as remarkable concentration and overall structured. It continues to display striking elegance and purity all they way up to the ultra-long finish. While this already shows flashes of brilliance it will ultimately need some extended bottle age before it shows its best stuff. - J. D'Angelo"

Rich and lavishly textured, it's also freshly composed and graceful on its feet. Firm but fine-grained tannins and a pleasantly smoky tone extend the finish. It should peak from 2020 through 2030. - Anna Lee C. Iijima"

wa300"I tasted several components of what will likely become the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois, all of which were remarkable. A Syrah from vat was stunning, offering flamboyant blueberries and spice along with silky tannins, while a Grenache component from barrel was incredibly rich and layered. I suspect my projected score is conservative. - Joe Czerwinski"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The inky colored 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Reine des Bois is a match for the otherworldly 2001 and is a magical wine that couldn’t be any better. Based on 75% Grenache and the balance Mourvèdre, Syrah, Vaccarèse, and Counoise, raised in tank and neutral barrels, its inky black color is followed by an awesome perfume of blackberries, smoked earth/charcoal, licorice, graphite, and garrigue. Deep, full-bodied, with a huge mid-palate, a seamless texture, and serious tannins, it has the purity as well as depth that makes this vintage so compelling. This modern-day legend needs 3-4 years of cellaring and is capable of lasting for 15-20 years.

This estate has unquestionably landed on its feet after the passing of Christophe Delorme in 2015, and you’ll have to go back to 2001 to find wines at the same level as these 2016s."

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Reine des Bois from Domaine de La Mordorée is solid in the vintage. A blend of 75% Grenache, 14% Mourvèdre and the rest Syrah, Vaccarèse and Counoise, aged in 25% new barrels, it offers the classic darker styled fruits of this cuvée, with lots of blackberry, currants, toasted spice, graphite, and licorice all emerging from the glass. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a supple, elegant style, it's already drinking beautifully, yet should evolve gracefully. This is one of the more elegant, mid-weight examples of this cuvée produced yet it will still keep for 10-12 years."
